well im still here

I was supposed to finish up moving my site last week but I still haven’t done it. I mean all the content is moved I just haven’t repointed the domain yet. I guess at this point I’ll try again tomorrow and for now go ahead with my weekly post… otherwise I don’t think I’d ever get around to posting this week.

I really don’t have a lot to post this week though. After mulling over the Marasiah Fel cincher I made last week I decided I should have just made as a full bodice and then I wouldn’t have to worry with fixing the top of the bodysuit/adding straps. But I really couldn’t reuse the cincher, i’d have to start over. I had enough fabric for that, but that wouldn’t leave me any for the back “skirt” portion – and I also didn’t have anymore eyelets. So I placed a pick-up order on Joann. Friday ticks by, Saturday ticks by, no pick-up email. Chase went to the website to call them to get an ETA to be met with a warning that they were prioritizing mask-making orders over other orders… which is fine thinking but I didn’t get that warning when I placed the order. So we just decided to mask up and run to joann for the stuff Saturday… only to be met with a line around the block of people waiting to get it. No thanks.

I did get to go meet Nana and Kristie’s new dogs though! They are both 8 years old, bonded pair, needed to be adopted together. The black one is Maggie and they’re still decided on a name for the blonde one.

I ended up placing an order for the fabric I needed on etsy (it’ll be here today + supporting small shop owners! yay.) and my eyelets on amazon which won’t be here til early next week, so I set Marasiah to the side for now.

Sunday was Dapper Day at home and I decided to go ahead and post my Dapper Day Dale on IG. Put it on and took some pics.

Shoes and belt aren’t what I was planning to use but once I realized we weren’t going to be able to go I put off finding new stuff. The waistband of the skirt is just basted in and the top isn’t finished – still needed hemmed and a back closure in. It’s just pinned on here. Though I was able to pin it closed without the extensions I’d made for the buttons so now I’m wondering if I can get away without the extensions? I’ll have to look and see. It’s a mom question. And I can’t really go hang around at mom’s and let her pin this on me and tell me right now šŸ™

The disney stairs

I also hadn’t finished my hat but I did give it start.

I had wanted to make it red, but when I pulled out the red fabric I had in mind for it, it was a much cooler red than my top and didn’t look right. But I had plenty of the skirt satin left so I decided to just switch it to yellow. I had some buckram and millinery wire leftover from other projects so I otherwise I had everything I needed. I got it to the point of basting the 2 layers and the buckram together and… I just don’t feel like the buckram is enough? It’s very floppy. Of course I haven’t put the wire in yet, but I don’t think it will help. I’m thinking I may need to put some heavier interfacing in.

I spent a good portion of Sunday mid-day making this.

It was fun! I was happy with the finished product.
Problems I ran into: Boushh staff is broken so I just used the thermal detonator. Could not find my Endor blaster ANYWHERE (wtf is that little chunk of resin?!) so I used Chase’s Han blaster. Also have no new era blasters, so used Han/Chase’s clone rifle.
I was trying to only do “battle” Leias but I kinda blew it by including TFA blue dress Leia. I just really wanted to put my Custom Wig Co wig on.
I was going to include Huttslayer Leia but A) I felt uncomfortable in it and B) the side portion where the top is cracked in 2 places was SO broken it was just bending upwards when I tried to tie it on, and thus not staying in place. Was going to cobble together the sandstorm “cape” using my comic Leia cape and Kevin’s Luke poncho.

I may still try to make that happen – try to take the top cracks so it will at least stay for 1 minute of filming + the various robe/cape pieces to hide the tape + make me feel a little more covered. Because I have enough Leias to do a part 2 – ceremonial (even though it fits horribly), bespin, huttslayer, ewok, comic book suit, medieval, doll poncho, and carrie.

Speaking of ceremonial putting it on and seeing how horrible the bustline fits made me think I should REALLY remake this thing. Now’s the time. I’ve got 11 yards of jetset, part of it was meant to be for a disneybound outfit but that’s not happening anytime soon so why not.

Anyway, several people said I should do a Padme version. I was thinking I only have 4 Padmes which I could do, is that enough? Then I remembered I did JUST FINISH the nightgown LOL. I can definitely do Post Senate, Parade, Lake, Nightgown and Funeral, so that’s 5. I still have the parts of Snowbunny, just no belt. I could MAYBE see if I can squeeze into Loyalist. I could also through in Corde. I probably won’t do Loyalist but with Corde that’s 7 and that would be fun. Especially since there’s a WHOOOOOOLE lot less hairstyling to do than with the Leia one (it’s mostly wigs. Yay.)

But while making the Leia video I discovered…

RIP Eternal Sailor Jupiter/Bespin Escape Leia/Snowbunny Padme/Wedding Padme boots!!!
Last time I had them out a couple of years ago they were flaking a bit but still wearable. They’ve totally disintegrated since then. But if I’m going to do snowbunny for the video, I need them… so I’m gonna try to peel off the worst of it. And then throw them away.

But that still leaves me with no belt/holster for snowbunny. I sold it with battle Padme several years ago. So last night I…

Made one out of some heavy canvas I had in my stash. I had no vinyl, nothing sturdy, except this. I’m actually pretty pleased with it for an hour of work. I need to paint it all white but it should work fine for a 2 second video.

So that’s really all I have this week. Going to try to do some more sewing, do a few videos this weekend. Hopefully my Marasiah stuff comes soon. Once I finish that update I want to do a white backdrop shoot, looking forward to getting pics of some of these things I’ve finished but can’t wear anywhere…

In Animal Crossing news… I finally got some rose seeds.

It’s funny how in New Leaf I wanted nothing to do with flowers. I’d plant them occasionally, they’d die, I’d pull them up. In this game? FLOWERS EVERYWHERE GIVE ME FLOWERS GIVE ME HYBRIDS LET ME MAKE GIANT PARKS OF FLOWERS!

I also went through some bins of fabric I’d been given a while back. I’d glanced through them but hadn’t really taken stuff out. I finally did that yesterday and in one of them I discovered…

Wow. I texted it to Cath and told her I was giving it to her for her first day back teaching when all this is over.

I also found a Hancock Fabric bag with some trim in it, along with a receipt from September 2000, and a flyer for the guy who used to do sewing machine repair here who we LOVED but lost contact with. We don’t think he’s doing it anymore but it was nice to find the flyer and maybe see if he’s still out there? What a throwback.
