that’s me lately. no chill. just constantly, constantly irritated at EVERYTHING.
Except cookies. And potatoes. Those are the only good things in life.
I really don’t have much to post this week. I DID get my domain name moved Friday. At least, I thought it was over and done with but the new company this morning said my old one hadn’t transferred it yet. I hope it happens in the next day or so, so I can start fixing broken stuff. But for now everything is the same. So I’m back to Monday posting. Albeit, late Monday posting.
I was super lazy this last week. Didn’t really do any sewing beyond repairs and stuff for doing a Padme video Saturday. After posting my “Choose Your Character” Leia video last weekend I had several folks ask for a Padme version, like I said in my last post.
First up I finished that super horrible snowbunny Padme belt:
It is literally just canvas painted white but it looked pretty decent in the video, which is all I needed it for.
Though putting snowbunny on meant digging these back out of the trash and trying to make them manageable:
I peeled off what I could, and then wore them UNDER my bodysuit instead of over the top. It wasn’t great but again, it worked fine for a 2 second video.
I also did some Post-Senate updates. First, I pulled my old collar off the undershirt and made a new collar. It’s shape slightly different so it fits my neck a bit better. I still have the issue of it sitting up too high, but I think that’s just an issue with the undershirt at this point. I need to look at moving it to the robe and foregoing the undershirt. Either that or make an undershirt it properly fits on — which I may do since I also need to make fitted undersleeves (which I’m missing according to the RL standards).
I also dove headfirst into this. SCARY!
My wig was so last minute in 2018, I was not happy with the shape of it, but I really did not feel like dismantling. Well I finally did it this week and guess what, it only took about an hour to update it.
I took a pic of my wig from straight-on and super imposed over a pic of Amidala straight-on. Determined my foam base was a little tall on top (just slightly) and came too far out on the sides. It was also slightly too short on the bottom edge – mine curved up as it got closer to the head and it should be straight. So I took the hair off, opened up the foam covers, and trimmed some of the excess away, and added some along the bottom (literally just made foam wedges and shoved them into the foam cover). Sewed the covers back up, reapplied the hair.
It’s still not perfect but I think it looked a little more proportionally correct on me.
Also – this was the first wig project I ever used clear caulk on. I’ve always been a clear elmer’s glue wig-styling person, but everybody is always like “use clear caulk” so I did for this one. (This was only on the layer of hair underneath the actual wig hair btw. Outer hair was just hair sprayed and sewn down.) Well I’m never using that again, because it only dried kinda “milky” clear and was super gross when I had to take the hair off. Maybe I used the wrong kind or something. But I’m going back to clear elmer’s glue for this stuff.
(I’d prefer to never use either again, though… LOL)
Finished vid:
Funnily enough Post-Senate and Corde were the quickest to get into. Post-Senate obviously because I’d already done the makeup for Parade… but then it’s just slapping the wig on my head and throwing a robe on. Same with corde, add some blast makeup and throw a wig and robe on.
Ok maybe TMI but the last 2 times I’ve worn the lake dress I’ve used a stick-on bra and athletic tape to make sure there’s no “wardrobe malfunction”… I did not use either this time and it was fine??? Like totally comfortable and looked ok? I mean I don’t think i’d go without anything to a con, but I think maybe next time I could get away with just the stick-on bra and forget about the athletic tape. That would make life easier.
Also can I say how weirdly hard it was to rotate with my eyes closed in Funeral? So weird.
So yeah the Veranda Nightgown… that was my first time wearing the whole thing.
Shapeways pieces came in last week, Chase got them painted. The brooch is only partially put together, I need to put some kind of closure on it. Or just sew it onto the dress, I dunno. (Oh, last week I also fixed the lengths on the pearl strands on this.)
The wig was just a stand-in… it’s just my Funeral wig with the flowers and ribbons removed. Which was A LOT HARDER TO DO than I thought it would be. Boy I wired those pieces in to withstand a hurricane. I put them all in a bag so I can put them back later… but the wig was the best thing I could find for ROTS Padme back in 2007, I think I can find something A LOT better now. It especially doesn’t look right on Veranda, so I was already planning on getting a wig for that anyway… so why not get something new for both. Tighter curls, slightly lighter brown.
I was about to say I’ll deal with finding that later, maybe in the summer, but I do want to shoot veranda on the white backdrop in the next few weeks, so I guess I need to get shopping. An Arda Lindsey would be nice.
In other non-Padme news… no progress on Marasiah because all the stuff I ordered was delayed. My fabric FINALLY arrived today and my grommets yesterday. So I’m getting back to work on that tonight.
And other than that? Not much to report.
We ran out to my parents house yesterday, took them a few things (cupcakes, a new sewing machine light for mom – I got one too but haven’t put it on yet!) and I got to pet Skye.
Reading about masks I think I’m going to finally make myself and Chase one. I don’t have any elastic for straps but I’m sure I have some ribbon I can use. I’ll start doing it this week.
Yesterday was our 12th wedding anniversary! Yay! Late last week we ran out and picked up steaks and potatoes from one of our fav places, and Chase cooked them up last night.
YUM
Last year at Disney World, when we booked Victoria and Albert’s, it was supposed to be for our 11th anniversary. But when they called Chase to get all the details, he told them 12th anniversary LOL. So our menus said happy 12th anniversary instead of 11th. But… I think he just had some foresight, because we still got to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary at Disney World.
I should have been packing for Disney World this past weekend. We would have been leaving this Thursday. My heart hurts. The only thing I can do for my mental health right now is disassociate from everything and just sew or play animal crossing or sleep. Or eat cookies. Or potatoes.
