At least I think it is. I’m too lazy to go look.
So Thursday last week we TOOK POSSESSION OF OUR NEW HOUSE!!
It was super exciting. I met Chase there as soon as I got off work, we had the alarm folks out to look at updating the alarm system that came with the house, and they got everything updated and ready to go on Friday. (it has an APP now!)
Thursday night was the first night we really had to ourselves in the house – ie, without an agent there, or the previous homeowners, etc. So it was the first time it really felt like ours, even though we’ve owned it since the end of November! LOL. So we just kinda walked around and looked at EVERYTHING and I did indeed roll around on the floor of my new sewing room.
I took my “real” camera and took some photos that night before we left so here’s a quick tour.
The kitchen
We plan to paint the cabinets in the future. Chase finally has the nice quartz countertops he’s always wanted!
Coming through the kitchen into the dining room towards the entryway:
Dining room – I’m going to start the painting in here, probably this weekend, since we really don’t have anything to go in this room at the moment (tho, it’s still filled with stuff that needs to go elsewhere after the move-in.) Getting a tester tonight.
The inside of the Harry Potter closet!
Our bedroom, they left us an essentially brand new queen mattress (they bought it to have in the house after they’d already shipped theirs to their new home, and didn’t need this one). I think we are going to use it in the guest room.
Master bath! We have our own closets!
Ok so as much as I love baths, I really don’t like those giant jacuzzi tubs. Does anybody? I even decided to give a go last night and was reminded why I don’t like them. So much water, it ran out of hot water before it was even half full and the bottom stayed cold the entire time.
So eventually – what we plan to do is pull the jacuzzi out, put in a nice shower in that spot. Where the shower stall is now (right behind where I’m standing in this photo) we’re going to put in another counter that’ll be like a little makeup table/area for me with a place to sit and a nice light.
One thing that needs updated in here ASAP – the little WC to the left where the toilet is needs a window covering LOL. It’s a little awkward right now.
Living room
This used to be a wet bar but they had the sink pulled out – it’s still got the plumbing underneath. I think we are going to take down the mirrors and put up shelving above it.
They left us this table!
Our porch off the living room!
The “secret stairs” up from the laundry room to my sewing room
MY SEWING ROOM HAS SO MANY LIGHTS
So I was trying to do a tour on my instagram story but the signal was so bad that it was loading them in a weird order, some of them got stuck, etc… so I tried to do one story about the lights in my office (and how many there were!) and it never loaded, so I did a second one and I ended up with two LOL. I had to go through and delete the ones out of order that didn’t make sense and everything and it was a mess LOL I should have just videoed it in normally and uploaded it later!
This is the little hallway from my sewing room to the rest of the house – new costume closet on the left, attic on the right.
Some of the doors and trim – especially upstairs – are a little dark so that’s something we hope to paint soon, too.
Costume closet! It’s BIG but oddly shaped — so Kristie and Ash brainstormed with me on how to best use the space. I’ll show you guys the plan later but I think it’s going to be great.
Hallway over the living room
Living room from above
(One of the first things that made it into the house was a Halloween decoration. The teal pumpkin on the mantle LOL. It was something easy to grab to throw in my car)
So that’s pretty much everything interesting – all my other pics are mostly empty rooms and closets LOL.
Friday I finally got to take Kevin over to see it. I said “You want to see your room? Here it is” and showed him the Harry Potter closet.
He LOVED it, ask him what his favourite part of the house is – “Harry Potter closet.”
So I said, just joking, come on, I’ll show you your real room… and I took him to the tiny crawlspace inside my sewing room closet LOL He thought that was funny.
So Saturday was THE BIG DAY.
Skye helped!
We met the movers at our storage units at 9. They had 2 trucks, 6 guys… me, Chase, Kevin and my parents were all going to be there to do whatever was needed, but after a while it became apparent that they didn’t need anything from us (I mean, they’re the professionals), so mom, Kevin and I left Chase and dad with them while we went on over to the house to get everything ready. And clean the fridge.
Jean & Ash came over and helped, and then the movers showed up… and we mostly just had to stay out of their way, occasionally directing them! They were great. They also seemed to enjoy our various prop weapons and my mannequin. LMAO
They did that, not me. LOL
Nana, Kristie, Cat and Rach got there a bit later and helped get the living room live-able and started setting up the kitchen too! So by that evening it was starting to feel real.
Rach organized the shelves by theme!
We went and met my grandparents at Mcallister’s for a quick dinner. My granddad told us he’d dropped his phone under his car seat and couldn’t get it out. So Rach, Cat and I all went out, had our flashlights on, down on the ground in the parking lot trying to fish his phone out for him. He kept telling us not to worry about it. Rach said well what are you going to do if we can’t get it out?! And he said he’d just go buy another one. We were like you’re crazy and kept looking. Somebody then tried to call it and… no ringing. That’s when we realized he HAD his phone. We were like what were we looking for?! He said “I didn’t say my PHONE, I said I dropped my COMB!” So we were all on the ground digging under this seat for a COMB… no wonder he said he’d just buy a new one LMAO We all just cracked up.
Well Saturday night we had wanted to stay at the new house… but by then it was dark out, we were exhausted, hadn’t gotten our daily stuff from Nana’s yet, and we couldn’t find the hardware to assemble our bed. It was kind of a bummer because I’d really wanted our first night there to NOT be a work night, but oh well.
Sunday I have no pics from. It was just busy and I didn’t get around to it. But we took one load of stuff over from Nana’s to the new house, then had to go get a few straggler things from the storage units and sweep them out (DONE with the storage units!) and take that stuff back to the house.
My parents came over and helped with that. We got the garage stuff a little organized and then mom and I worked on the master bathroom (which was nearly inaccessible because of all the boxes that had been stacked in there – we got it down to a manageable level), and then a bit in the kitchen.
We had dinner with Nana and Kristie, then loaded Luna up and got our daily stuff and headed back to the new house. We were going to take Kevin, too and get his bed set up that night- but Kristie said why not leave him here tonight, so he stayed over there. That’ll be better for him since he’ll have a tv to watch today and kristie will be there with him – and he’ll already be there when I come by this afternoon to get another load to move over.
Luna was not happy about being stuffed in the kennel.
But she quickly set about exploring.
So first night in the house… #1 we need some window coverings. We LOVE all the natural light and big windows during the day but at night they are #1, creepy, and #2… our neighbor directly behind us has a MASSIVE floodlight that is pointed directly into the back of house. It lights up the living room and a little bit into the bedroom. Which is against the HOA bylaws but I’m not going to be THAT person just yet. We’ve picked out some nice blinds for hte living room – so we can have them open in the day and closed as night, and hopefully that helps cut back on it – and we need to get our curtains hung in the bedroom. I think just regular curtains will work fine in there – Chase keeps suggesting black out curtains, but I HATE black out curtains in my bedroom. I like to gently wake up as the sun gets brighter in the morning. Not have it be midnight in my room all the time.
Anyway, Luna was up exploring most of the night and we could hear her chirping from the other room a few times – we left our door cracked open so she knew where we were, and around 3:30 she came in and laid on the bed with me. By 5 she was back up and out exploring. Chase said she was upstairs when he left this morning, so she’d finally discovered that. We put her cat condo by one of the big windows in the living room, she’s going to love that.
So tonight after work – another couple of loads from Nana’s house — I still need to get what’s left of my bathroom stuff (costume makeup, curlers, wig stuff – not daily things), and a few more sewing things – going to take 2 of my machines, my cutting mat, a stool, a couple of small fabric bins and a bolt of fabric. Chase has some stuff to get out of his office tonight, too. Then we are going to run by lowe’s and get some paint testers.
And really quickly, here’s some new art! AOTC-era concept.
