Birthday blog month is over. Site look has been updated. Still need to update the art segment but I’ll get to that in a bit here.
Back to Tink!
Round one of dyeing didn’t turn out dark enough.
So back in the dye once more.
Better.
I was left looking like I was ready to play Elphaba though. I didn’t even realize I’d dripped it down my arms too until later.
Saturday night after I finished the re-dye, I walked into the entryway towards the laundry room and noticed a sulfur-y smell. It was the second time we’ve noticed that sort of rotten egg smell in the entryway in the past week. So I went and told Chase because I was concerned about gas — Chase googled it, called our gas company’s emergency line to ask… and they told us to not flip anymore switches, and get out of the house.
So I put Luna in her kennel (she hated that), and we went and sat in the car until the emergency tech showed up. Thankfully it didn’t take him long.
Tech couldn’t find any problems anywhere. Our HVAC is in the laundry room, so we were concerned there might be a problem there since we just had it put in last summer, but he said it all looked fine. So he gave us the all clear to go back in. So that was our excitement for the weekend.
Also Saturday went to Hobby Lobby and beads were 50% off so I stocked up for Tink.
I still need to find some kind of lace, or flowers, or something. I was originally thinking lace based on some of my Edwardian dresses I’d saved as inspiration. Maybe a mix. I dunno. That’s the one part I haven’t settled on yet. I want to do it along the top of the bustline and maybe a bit on the side bustle piece.
Oh! And my wig stuff came from Arda.
I finally tried it on Sunday and it’ll work good. I need to trim up the base wig a little bit, stuff the bun to make it bigger and sew it in place.
So I was messing with the dress…
And I just tucked up the excess to make it look shorter, just as a visual thing. But then I kinda liked it… so I think for the front panel I am going to shorten and gather it into a point. Then the other points will be tucked up and tacked in place to preserve the length/colours. The two side fronts I’ll shorten a bit more, so they’re similar length to the front point, and then get longer as they go back, leaving the center back floor length.
Last couple of nights I got the outer dress attached to the lining – sewn at the upper edge and flipped, then hand-sewn along the back next to the grommets and around the zipper. I’m going to be taking a short break on Tink — I have a side project to work on the next couple of weeks and then I’ll come back around to her. The heavy lifting is mostly done – once I get the skirt panels shortened and tacked up, it’s all just decoration, wig work, doing that side bustle and finding some shoes to mod. I still have Peter Pan to make of course, but I think that’ll all be pretty simple in comparison.
And I still have my wings of course, but Chase is helping me with that.
And honestly? If I don’t finish these for MidSouthCon, it’s not a big deal. We’ll wear them to ABC in the summer if that’s the case. I ain’t worried.
