Halloween weekend!!

IT’S HALLOWEEN YALL!

We had a really fun weekend.

Friday night started with cooking dinner and settling in on the couch to start watching Stranger Things 2. We got through 2 episodes that night.

Saturday morning we slept in a bit, and then I started getting ready.

(How to tell a photoshoot is happening at my house)

We had very pleasant weather last week (70s mostly) and then overnight Friday it got COLD! It was in the 30s Saturday morning. WHAT! I was glad I was wearing a hundred layers in Anne, but my hands were still freezing the whole time. Plus I kinda messed up my eye makeup and had to put some makeup remover on a qtip to get it off, and it irritated my eyes. Then I had runny eyes the ENTIRE photoshoot outside in the cold. At one point Chase took a photo and I said, “I literally just had a tear running down my face in that one.” I kept having to dab my eyes off but even then by the end I had dried salt all around my eyes and my fake eyelashes were toast.

Anyway.

Ash came along to help which was good because I was useless. Chase had to lift me into the car.

So I’ve been wanting to shoot Anne at this specific location (a local college campus) for a while. The architecture suits the costume really well. Last year Chase shot family photos for some friends there and had no problems. Well we got to the college and guess what….. it was homecoming weekend. It was crowded and people parked all over the streets outside of campus. We headed for the entrance Chase went in last time and got to the guard booth. Told guard we were doing a costume photoshoot. Got told we couldn’t do that without permission from the Communications Director (guard gave us a card with instructions and how to contact the director) and had to turn around and leave. Super disappointing!!

Read over the card the guard gave us, and it’s totally about commercial photography – which we weren’t, obviously. Ash suggested we try another entrance. So we drove around to the front and went in on the far side, where there wasn’t near as much traffic or crowds. That guard just waved us right on in. LOL.

So Anne photoshoot happened where I wanted!!

We spent about an hour taking photos. There was a bit of foot traffic but not bad… we even had another photographer taking Sweet 17 photos in the same area. I did have one guy stop and kneel to me, that was funny.

I didn’t realize til AFTER we were done that I hadn’t taken the ribbon loop off the back of my hood — I had that ribbon pinned on just so the hood could hang on a hook in my sewing room. Oops šŸ™

But anyway from what I saw of the pics they look amazing and I can’t wait to get them!!

Oh and of course had to do some twirling…

We were frozen by the time we were done. Ash and Chase helped me out of the dress by the car — I was wearing a tank top and jeans underneath it LMAO. Got into a sweatshirt and regular shoes and we headed downtown to check out the Monster Market pop-up shop. It was really cool! I got a christmas present for somebodyyyyy and Chase got some coffee, Ash got some art and a pin. Then we had lunch at babalu (we hadn’t been there before, it was really good!).

Had to spend the afternoon on some play stuff, then we quickly set up the small white backdrop for my Halloween photoshoot!

First up was Dorothy. I wanted to Dorothy first so we could braid my hair, then I could put the hair straightener on my braids to hopefully get it kinda crimpy for Hermione and Dr Forrester.
I can kinda do a french braid if it’s not on my own head. Chase didn’t know how at all. I pulled up a youtube video for him to follow and we just… couldn’t get it. After about 10 minutes I said forget it. I’m just going to take apart my Belle wig and braid it! So that’s what I did (I’d been wanting to restyle Belle for a while anyway).

It worked ok!

Nice to finally have photos of this costume. Haven’t worn it since Halloween 2006!

Next up was Hermione. I did try the hair straightener on my braided hair but it didn’t look great. Teased it up but it didn’t look all that right. Hoping it looks ok in photos.
Then Dr Forrester – teased it up more and added the white streaks. I think it looked OK for that.

Then we did Galadriel, which was quick. And then Edith.

Edith was last since I had to change my makeup.

And then we broke down, I cleaned up my costume mess, we had dinner and watched some more Stranger Things. I didn’t last very long tho – I was exhausted!

SUNDAY!
Sunday was a lazy day. We ate breakfast and watched Stranger Things. Went the grocery store, watched Stranger Things.

I downloaded that kirakira sparkle app I’ve been wanting, mostly just so I could do a video of my Belle dress sparkling for an instagram post LOL

(heavy breathing)

Then I got into Leia for Trunk or Treat!

I went with Na and Kristie and Kevin. Weather was nice while the sun was up, then got COLD as it went down.

Na and Kev:

First time in problem 10 years I went without false eyelashes.

Feels weird without them on. But I didn’t want to irritate my eyes anymore than I did the day before.

Macy had to put her sweater on!

Kevin got snowed on:

And met a dinosaur:

We had to get there at 5 for set up but then the trunk or treating didn’t actually start til 6:30. It’s been a few years since I’d done one of these but back when I did it they’d let the kids start going around before the start time. Kristie said the last couple of years they’d had close to 2000 kids and ran out of candy, so this year they held them back til right at the start time, so there was a massive line to get “in” on the sidewalk. And unfortunately just as they let the kids in is when Chase got there to pick me up for dinner. So I got to give out 2 pieces of candy and then had to jet. Boo!

That’s kinda it for us for Halloween this year. I mean, we’ll be handing out candy tomorrow but like I said I can’t find any of my decorations. Didn’t get a pumpkin. How boring!! I think I’m gonna try to wear DCNU Wonder Woman tomorrow night to hand out candy – going to try to use my own hair since it’s dark right now. We’ll see how that goes.
