productive weekend was productive

It was a really good work weekend! I got a lot done!

Instead of going in order I’m going to go by project…
Friday night started off with another round of dye on the TFA Leia linen. Saturday I decided to go one step darker and one step more saturated which really helped. I’m like, 90% happy with it so I let it dry all afternoon and then started putting it together that night.

I had cut each panel slightly bigger than they needed to be, in case of any shrinkage, so I got those cut back down to fit the lining. Here’s the pieces inside out – the brighter blue is the lining.

Got the center front interfaced and the star shape cut in. It turned out ok, the points are not quite as pointy as I would like but if I cut too close to the stitch lines on this linen it will begin to pull away. So again – 90% happy with it.

Yesterday morning got it all sewn up except the hem.

I’m not going to do the hem until I figure out what shoes I’m wearing.
So yeah I’m 90% happy with it. The colour is closer to promo pictures than to the display/on-set/on-camera photos. I wish I could’ve gotten it a little more saturated but at this point I’m tired of having my hands be blue. I’ve seriously dyed this fabric like 6 times at this point. Not counting the times I dyed the previous fabric I ruined. So yeah I’m going to stop when I’m at good enough. Same with the star cut-out – I don’t want to screw it up at this point, I cut too close to one stitch line and it pulled apart when I flipped it. So I’m ok with less-than-pointy edges right now.

Besides I’m still watching for linen the right colour so I may remake it one day, who knows.

Tonight I’m going to get the underdress parts cut and hopefully put in the dye?

I’ll also put the outer dress on the dressform and take a picture in better light tonight – for some reason every photo I took of it yesterday was in the bedroom where we have a light burnt out so it’s just dimly yellow in there. Ew!

That Pink Thing!
I spent a lot of time Friday and Saturday cutting out ruffles and making ruffles.

Saturday I got the skirt sewn onto the bodice finally. Also made straps and pinned them on but haven’t sewn them yet.

Ready for prom!

Some of the ruffles just placed on top while I was wearing it so I could get a visual:

And then I started pinning ruffles on to see if I had enough made:

I’m close.

Yesterday I started pinning them on correctly so I could start sewing them. My sequin trim also came yesterday (amazon delivering on sundays really throws me for a loop), so I can start sewing that on too.

Donna Troy!
I finished up a commission for a Troia/Donna Troy suit and I’m pretty pleased with how it came out!

This glitter black stretch velvet was listed as SHEDLESS and it really was! There was no silver glitter all over my sewing room!

Yay!

I’m feeling really good about where I’m at for Dcon. I have next Friday off to work and I THINK by the end of July I’ll be done with all major sewing ??? Then I still have to make accessories and do all the embellishments (ie, Mon Mothma’s necklace thingie, all the sequins on the pink thing, etc…) but if that’s all I have to do throughout August then I’m in really good shape.

Of course that makes my brain jump to, what else could I make?!?! Which isn’t happening brain, cut it out.

So my goals for the week:

TFA Leia:
-Get underdress cut
-Get underdress panels dyed
-Get underdress sewn together/finished
-see if boots I have will work
-Get both pieces hemmed

Pink thing:
-Get all the ruffles sewn onto the skirt
-Get sequin trim sewn on ruffles
-Paint shoes

Bespin Leia:
-Take apart tunic
