1 step forward, 3 steps back

So this morning I realized I did some of my Bespin Leia stuff in the wrong colour over the weekend. I dunno if I’ll be able to fix it since the needle leaves holes in the fabric. I guess I can try to unpick the wrong part (some of the interior petals within the flowers) and put the needle back through the same holes with the right colour.
This just comes as last night I was finally feeling like I’d hit a groove and was starting to move faster and feeling pleased with what I’d done. So — 1 step forward, 3 steps back like the title says. Thankfully it’s not a LOT… I’d only done those interior petals on 3 or 4 of the flowers? But still. Having to undo and redo work is frustrating. Also realized my scale is slightly off, my flowers are a little small but at this point that’s not something I can worry about anymore if I want to finish this, ever.

Honestly it makes me want to pull my hair out and throw it away but I have to just power forward now.

Anyway, onto something that is going much smoother than Bespin Leia… Dolores is mostly done!

I finally got the rest of my trim sewn on and finished. Here are my 4 trims:

My pleated trim made from the dress fabric, my velvet trim (dyed), my white lace, my blue (dyed) and yellow rick-rack sewn together.

I originally had the trim all folding under the front edge of the top but it was making it WAY too thick. I cut it off right at the edge and cauterized it, and then put a snap there so that the neckline would stay shut.

Friday night I also made my pouch. It’s not perfect but it’ll do.

Patterned it out in some felt, cut it out of some leftover leather (I think it was leather leftover from Boushh… geez). I don’t have a picture of it finished, Chase dyed it when he was working on my belt Saturday. I just need to put a snap or something in the front to keep it closed. I hope my phone fits in it, I forgot to check.

Saturday I finished up my wig:

I had to cut the side combs out and move them up about an inch and a half. They were sitting right on top of my ears originally! Curling the wig went fairly smoothly, the only rough point came when trimming the front edge for the curls along the side of the face – I cut too much hair and my curls are a little “more” than I wanted, but I figured out I can tuck the excess under and pin it down and it looks ok.

Tried it all on Saturday too!

Except the belt of course. I’m really pleased with how it all came out. It’s still a little big/loose through the shoulders/upper bust but it’s not terrible and I’m just going to live with it. I just need to fix the hook and eye on the skirt waistband – I guessed wrong and it’s too big – and I’m done with all of the sewing part.

From the back

Can’t wait to wear it this weekend for real. Haven’t done any kind of makeup test so I want actually get to “see” myself in it until I get it on Saturday before the con.

So some Disney/Celebration talk.
So for Celebration we were intending to do 3 Disney days (technically 2.5 but whatever), 1 Universal and 1 con. I really want to take Kevin to Universal to see Harry Potter world. But in doing the numbers it would be so much cheaper if we skipped it and did 2 con days instead. Would save us about $300 which is food for the trip. So we’re considering skipping it this year and focusing on Disney/con, and then maybe next trip next year do Disney/Universal.
The thing is I think we’ll get bored doing 2 con days. We’ll want to leave and go back to Disney or something can guarantee it… since we aren’t staying nearby we can’t just go nap in the room or change costumes and come out re-energized. We would be there start to finish both days and we’re not panel go-ers, so I think we’d get “done” both days by midday.
I dunno. We’re still discussing it.

My embroidery audience yesterday:

Why didn’t one of you tell me I was using the wrong colour???
