Disney Trip Pics, Part 2, & Restaurant Thoughts

Chase gave me his photos last night! I also wanted to talk a little more about the food, because it is one of my favourite things to talk about.

Eating way too much food at ‘Ohana:

‘Ohana thoughts…
The food at ‘Ohana was a little bit of a disappointment to me honestly. I mean it was perfectly fine, I guess I was just expecting what I get at Kona Cafe next door (my fav breakfast place in all of WDW!) and it was really just the same basic breakfast food you get at any of the other buffets. Our second round of food was better than the first, but by then I was full. I did like the juice and the Stitch waffles though.

The character interactions were a lot of fun, of course – it was Pluto’s birthday so that was neat. We had a fantastic view sitting right by one of the windows, but the table behind us was so close that everytime one of the kids sitting in the chair directly behind me would get up to meet a character, they’d slam into my chair. It wasn’t that the kids were being too rambunctious – the tables were just to close. If I’d slid my chair back at all, I would’ve hit them, too. (Instead, I tried to slither out without moving the chair.) Just kind of a weird situation for a restaurant where you ARE getting up and down the entire time.

OMG Stitch

Stitch had a photopass photographer with him which was nice — but our photos never showed up in our account. I emailed them about it Monday (it’s happened once before and they found them a few days later), but thus far haven’t heard back.

Cute Stitch art I wanted; maybe next trip.

Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming in Disney Springs (I had to just backspace and replace “Downtown Disney”) was one I was really looking forward to. I love Southern cooking and that’s what the whole menu was. The Deviled Eggs were easily my favourite part of the whole meal, and as I said in my last post, if we’re in Disney Springs I’d stop in and sit and the bar and just order the eggs for a snack. YUM. Fried Chicken and dessert (Shine Cake) were also good. This one will be high on our “return possibilities” list because I’d love to go back and try some of the other entrees.

When it’s so hot you just have to wear a wet towel on your head and pose with a dog statue

Tuesday was our Be Our Guest, which I really don’t have anything new to say about, because we basically got the same stuff we got last time. The steak was good, the fries with the dipping sauce was my faaaav. Good bread. I was brought the grey stuff for my birthday but was disappointed they no longer had the edible pearls in it? That was my fav part of it, that pop of crunching the pearls, instead it had some of the little mickey head sprinkles. I still ate it all so it wasn’t like it was terrible LOL

Wednesday was Yachtsmen Steakhouse. Everything here was really, really great. Like, one of hte best steaks I’ve had, I barely had to cut it it was so tender. Easily the best steak I’ve had at WDW. I wasn’t expecting much from the mashed potatoes, but wow, I would’ve taken my leftovers of that home with me to eat later if I’d had room. The Lobster Bisque was also really incredible and I loved that they allowed an appetizer substitution over a dessert on the DDP. It was all really good and I’d love to go back but it would have to be special occasion again! Maybe if I get my parents down there again 🙂

The Fire Chief told me lots of funny Star Wars jokes. What is the temperature inside a tauntaun? Luke-warm.

Up way too early for the train tour

Thursday was Via Napoli. I’m super picky about pizza but since this is THE pizza place I knew I’d better get pizza. So I did, and it was good otherwise I wouldn’t have eaten it all. Was it my fav pizza of all time? No, I’m firmly Camp Thin-Crust, but the crust on this was fine and the toppings were well balanced — not too much sauce drowning everything else out. Buuuuut Chase’s candele pasta was the winner. It was SO good I’m glad he shared it with me!! LOL We even tried to find a copycat recipe to make it at home earlier this week with no luck. Chase did make something similar but it wasn’t quite there… still good though!

Friday was La Hacienda de San Angel. Now I ate at the other Mexico restaurant, San Angel, yeeeeeears ago (2000? Or was it 2001? I can never remember the year of that trip) and I didn’t care for it. It was loud, the service was rushed, the food was blah and the dessert was stale. We decided it was time to give the Mexico pavilion another shot, this time trying out the newer La Hacienda. Thankfully it was a much different experience, the restaurant was quiet (not full!), our server was great, the food was good. We have a lot of great Mexican food here at home, so it’s hard to be like WOW! over tacos, but they were very tasty.

Sat morning was at Kona again and I’ve never gotten a bad breakfast at Kona. Those pancakes! Yum!

Next trip we only have one ADR (because we’re doing Food and Wine all the time otherwise) — California Grill, I’m super excited.

Now for a bunch of train tour pics.
