First up, let’s talk Edith…
Didn’t do much on it this weekend. I DID get my leotard made (for wearing underneath it, it can still be somewhat see-through especially when walking or seen under a bright light). Nothing fancy, just used some leftover nude spandex, didn’t hem or it finish the edges or anything and it pulls on so no zipper needed.
Really, the dye job isn’t TERRIBLE once it’s on.
But I’m still redoing it. Fabric will be here today. I’m hoping to get the new panels cut, sewn together and pleated tonight. Attached & dyed tomorrow night.
I did dig in and finish up my gloves! I really like how they turned out. These were just super simple. I laid out two layers of nude spandex, traced my hand, and then went over the trace lines on the machine in a small zig-zag stitch. Once I finished them I mixed up some leftover fabric paint from Georgian Belle last year and bloodied them up. This way I don’t have to worry with having makeup and paint all over my hands.
I’ve been waffling on shoes. I was going to make a thing… use one of those “invisible shoe” tutorials for hobbit feet. Then I thought nah I’ll just wear boots and be comfortable. I did buy a super cheap pair of nude flipflops ($4), so now I’m thinking I might use those instead. The straps are glittery, I can just cover them up with the scraps of my nude spandex. Maybe. We’ll see.
Next up…. Leia Disneybounding
My spoonflower fabric finally came crawling in last week. While Edith was drying in between ill-fated dyeing and un-dyeing, I put together my Disneybound Leia shirt. I wanted a shirt pretty much exactly like this other shirt I had, as I mentioned previously. The shirt has some white-on-white embossed symbols down the front, so I kinda took inspiration for that and made a design in photoshop that’s different star wars symbols in a light grey down the front. I got a fat quarter as a sample to see what it looked like and realized it was too big. So I shrunk it a bit and got another fat quarter. Those two pieces became my front and back for the shirt, I used the bigger one on the back and the smaller one on the front. Though I think the smaller one ended up a tad TOO small. Oh well.
Here was my first run at it:
(Ignore my scottie dog pajama pants please… I should do a collage of all my progress pictures where I’m wearing pajama pants)
And actually that wasn’t my first run. That was after redoing some things. I used a pattern as a basis for the top yoke piece, though I changed the shape a lot and got rid of some of the seaming. I initially doubled the fabric over for the yoke piece, so I could have a nice clean edge. But then I only had one layer for the lower piece. So the two pieces looked way too different.
Also this is in spoonflower’s modern jersey… which I ended up not really liking for this project. It’s a little heavier than I wanted. When I hemmed the shirt the first time around, the hemmed fabric was so heavy it was causing the edges of the shirt to stick out really weird. I took the hem out and tried to just cut it evenly, but yeah that’ll never happen.
Last night I took the yoke off, used it as a pattern to recut the pieces as one layer. I just did a quick turn-under of the neck and arm edges and it looked MUCH better. It doesn’t look so heavy now.
(Besides ignoring my pajama pants, also ignore the fact I couldn’t find the white tanktop I intend to wear with this)
Instead of folding the hem over twice like I did the first time, I just folded it once and it looked much better. So after a few days of struggling I’m finally ok with this, I think.
Luna is not impressed.
I’ve got white shorts to wear with it, but I may wear grey instead. We’ll see what happens when I get there.
Oh! I don’t think I ever posted my necklace and I don’t have the photo on my phone anymore so here it is on instagram:
I got it from ThePendantPeddler on etsy. Really affordable and came faster than I expected. I’m very happy with it.
Finally… I’ll save the trooping photos for another post.
