First up… I worked on my Disgust wig last night!
I bought two packs of a green metallic embroidery floss and just started threading it into the wig cap:
It was nearly impossible to get a decent photo of, which doesn’t bode well for actually wearing it, but in person I think it looks great. I still have a little more to add but I was saving it for tonight to work on during the Rupaul’s Drag Race premiere. (Yay!) Once I get that finished, I can finish trimming it up and curl it.
I finished embroidering the dress Sunday morning! So yesterday afternoon I got all the piece put back together:
I still need to sew the shoulder straps together, put a button on the back and a zipper, and a couple of hook-and-eyes.
I thought I had enough fabric left to line the skirt, but when I went to cut it out, I did not. Boo! I had wanted to line it to hide & protect the back side of the embroidery, but oh well. I do have enough to make a slip, and some white tulle somebody gave me, so I’m going to make a small petticoat. I wasn’t sure if I needed it or not, but once I had everything together and stood back and looked at it, the skirt was falling a little flat. In the photo above, I have a lightly-petticoated skirt on the dressform underneath to see if that’s what I wanted, and it was, so making this petticoat slip is my next order of business.
There are a couple of small fit issues I’m having in the bust, which I’m hoping will be solved when I get the shoulder straps matched up and sewn together correctly.
I decided I did want want to do a light layer of glue over each embroidery piece. That’ll probably be the very last thing I do before the con because it’s the least important, really.
I got my eyelashes, and my tights for my arms and legs. (I’ll be painting my neck and face, obv). I need to get those modified and do a paint test and see if I need to dye or paint the tights to match better. I also need to make my scarf but that’ll take like 2 seconds.
Finally I need to make my belt – I got a fabric for it, need to dig around the leather scraps for a piece big enough to back it in. Paint the buckle I got.
I also have 2 (maybe 3?) sheath dresses I need to make in the next two weeks. YIkes!
Now onto non-sewing stuff!
Kevin has been with us the past few days.
He took a scooter ride
Played with snapchat
Made a friend
(Also, his new glasses are super cute)
And helped me pick out shoes
So for real I have not bought tennis shoes/athletic shoes in 10 years. I wear boots all winter and flip-flops all summer. I decided for so many Disney trips this year I really need a comfortable, light-weight pair of tennis shoes, especially after the swelling incident of Disney 2014. Since it’s been so long since I’ve worn or shopped for shoes, I asked for help from the experts – Nana, Kristie and Rachel. Like I don’t even know how to wear tennis shoes with shorts anymore. What kind of socks do I wear? Everytime I try I look like a grandma. So they all helped me pick out some that were comfortable and cute. It came down to two pairs and I ended up getting them both:
Saturday I spent the afternoon with my parents, working on theater dresses with mom, and playing with Kes.
The End! I have a overdue Disney post to make next up.
