First up, the last few from the photoshoot – Magik, Johanna and Romana I.
Romana was towards the end because dumbing down the white backdrop to total white was difficult around those feathers.
Over the years some dings and scratches and paint peels have occurred on my Magik armor… and I really like it, I wish I had more of them. Haha.
And finally Johanna.
So this past week I have been on a hunt for new Leia extensions that match. I’ve used the same extensions since my first Leia costume back in 2004 – way back then, they matched pretty well.
Right up to 2010 they matched pretty well.
But in 2011 I started lightening my red down for my Donna costume (and I just thought it would be a fun change) and… now they don’t match at all. I’ve scrambled through with them for the past few years, mostly by using my hood as a way of hiding the non-matching parts.
(It’s REALLY apparent in this pic, even with the hood…)
So a few weeks ago I thought, I need to get new extensions for all this Star Wars trooping we’ll be doing around the new movie. Since we have a Grizzlies game this friday, Tuesday night I went to my local wig/beauty store to find some new extensions. I found some that looked as long as my old ones (just eyeballed it, I didn’t have a measurement) and looked like they matched my hair ok. Not quite red but a lighter brown with an auburn tone to it. I bought two packs and brought them home, and after dinner, went to try them out.
Total disaster… for one thing, they way they were wound up in the cardboard packaging made them look a lot longer than they really were. They were only 10″ long – half the size of my usual ones (as I later discovered. I went and measured them after this.) My fault for not reading and measuring beforehand, but that packaging sure was a lie. To top it off, as they went, they got darker and turned black by the end. No good. So now I had spent $20 on un-returnable hair products. Boo!
Last night I went to a different shop. With a firm measurement in my mind, I found a nice 18″ ALL auburn wefted pieces. I tried them out last night and they worked pretty good. My hair is a LITTLE more saturated than they are but it’s not as bad a difference as the old ones. I will, of course, have some photos to share after Friday’s game. Yay!
