I finished the dress!! That’s one DragonCon costume down!
Of course I STILL have not decided what all I’m making this year. I’m not totally feeling the two “big” costumes I was thinking of choosing between. Sigh. More on that later.
I think my neck/collar ended up sitting a little lower than the real thing, but I think it’s cute – and for a quickly made costume out of stuff I already had, I’m pretty well pleased. I’ve got to buy a wig at some point, and maybe a new cigarette holder – I can’t remember if I already mentioned, but my old Yuuko one is missing the mouth piece. Now it just looks like a magic wand LOL
Saturday we went to the Renaissance Festival in Nashville!
First let me explain my sad history with this event. I have ALWAYS wanted to go, but it has never worked out. Every year I ask to go – every year there’s no time, there’s no money, the weather is bad, we have another event to go to, etc. The closest I’ve gotten is when Chase was still living in Nashville in 2006. We were going to go Memorial Day – we’d been at Wonderfest in Louisville Saturday and Sunday, then Monday to the Renaissance Fest. I’d even brought Anna Valerious along to wear! We got up Monday morning, I was feeling a little funny, we got in the car to go get some breakfast… and before we even got out of his apartment’s parking lot, I said, turn around! I ran back in just in time to throw up 🙁
So we didn’t go. And the next year, Chase had moved to Memphis and we never had as close a chance again.
This year, we were going to go last weekend and take Kevin! But Kevin hurt his arm, and with everything going on with my grandpa, we delayed it til this weekend. Kevin decided not to go, which made me sad (because he would have loved it) but I decided to push on and have a good time anyway.
Didn’t dress up, since we got up early and had to make the drive up. It rained the whole way but it stopped just as we got there and ended up being a pretty nice day for it. A little muggy but it could have been way worse. I didn’t take a ton of pictures, but what I did take are here.
So back to my Dragoncon costumes. I have two big costumes I’m thinking of doing. One is a LOT of work and I’m not sure I feel up to it. The other is not as much work, and more of an original thing, but that means making a lot of independent decisions which can be fun but it can also be frustrating when your shopping choices are only online or Hancock/Joanns. :\
I have two costumes I’m starting work on next — a Disney costume, that I have a little bit of fabric to start playing with soon, and a Star Wars costume, that I’m ordering swatches for today. I think those are pretty definite. The Star Wars one is more definite than the other.
I have one other silly costume that is really obscure but it would be easy to do. So I may do that too.
Otherwise… I may just start digging through my “want” folders and see if something else sparks my interest :\ Or maybe I’ll just leave it at that and not have so much stress all summer…?
In thoughts of bringing back older costumes… I’m thinking of:
The elf dress – even though it’s not finished, by dragoncon it will technically be an “older” costume since I’ll have already worn it to Memphis Comics Expo – so this one will come.
Anne Boleyn – since I only wore it for the show last year. I’ve still got scraps of the fabric and I’d like to make her French Hood to wear.
Donna Fires of Pompeii – I need to fix some stuff on this and bring it back.
Peggy – I’d like to redo the wig again and take up the jacket to fit better. The thing I’ve been saying I want to do for months now.
Rogue as Ms Marvel – maybe? I don’t have a lot in the way of superhero stuff this year so this would be a good one to bring back.
Glimmer – may bring it back for the He-Man/she-Ra shoot. Honestly it depends on if I have room to pack it – it’s a butt to pack.
Wasp – if I don’t bring Rogue maybe I’ll bring Wasp back… it’s comfortable and cute.
Donna Journey’s End/Runaway Bride – Journey’s End will probably come whether I wear it or not. It’s small and easy to pack so it’s easy to bring along in case I want something comfy. Runaway Bride would be fun to bring back, too.
Belle Blue Dress – This is a comfy costume and I’ve never worn it anywhere.
DCNU Wonder Woman – Also have never worn this to a con or anywhere! So, maybe?
Obviously all of those aren’t coming. I try to keep myself at 12 total, because 12 is do-able over the course of the weekend. I just need to start thinking about it so I can start lining things up for repairs…
