So gosh, what all did I do this weekend? So much work to remember.
Friday night, saw Guardians of the Galaxy, a lot of fun.
Saturday morning had a Spin-a-thon I went to as Wonder Woman, fun.
Saturday afternoon-evening, family cookout with way too much food.
Around all that, I finished my surprise costume! Top to bottom. All done. Would have been done SLIGHTLY faster if I hadn’t made two right hand gloves at first.
But, I have no pictures of that. Didn’t even take any in-progress photos for my portfolio later (dumb). I was just sewing like the wind.
Wonder Woman heading to the event:
Chase took quite a few pics that I’ll post on flickr later.
I experimented with painting my Marie Antoinette hat. Looks good but I’ll need more paint, it soaks it up. Recurled half of my Peggy wig. The other half will be curled tonight.
Dyed my Johanna chiffon. It was originally more of a light brown/tan/khaki colour than I liked, it needed more gold – I ended up with a ton of gold/yellow chiffon I found on clearance so I wanted to dye the original chiffon to match. It dyed pretty well, got pretty close. In fact I like my dyed fabric better than the yellow I bought, so I’m using the dyed fabric for the body and the bought stuff for the ruffles.
I rethought the dress last night after I finally pulled it out and looked it over. I recut the top, got the lining in, did some light boning for structure and attached the skirt.
I’ve been trying to be really cognizant of my craftsmanship and step up my game on my new costumes – but I think that is why I’ve been so slow working on stuff this summer. The surprise costume and this are not going to be the same quality as Anne and Peggy. At this point, just gotta get them done.
This morning, I made the decision to drop Donna Unicorn & the Wasp for now. I could still squeeze it in half-assed if I wanted – I could get the front basically (and I mean BASICALLY) done, but it wouldn’t be polished and finished, so I’m going to focus on finishing it for GMX. I AM, however, going to see if I can pick up some fabric this weekend and put together Fires of Pompeii Donna instead, since that’ll take just a few hours of work.
But knowing I’m not going to even try to finish it now takes a huge amount of work off my plate and I can focus on the repairs and finishes on everything else.
I’ll only have 4 new costumes for Dragoncon. That’s the lowest ever – except for 2005 when I had 2 (although, I made 3 costumes for friends, so technically it was 5). But oh well that leaves me room to bring and rewear old stuff.
And now, onto kittens. AKA the reason I’m spending more time sitting on the couch doing nothing instead of sewing.
I don’t know where my crazy, hyper, biting cat went off to yesterday. Instead we had a loving, napping, cuddling, sweet kitten. I don’t know who this cat is.
I was stuck on the couch for a half hour while she slept in my lap. Then she did it again while we watched Project Runway during dinner.
Speaking of dinner, they teamed up to beg:
Luna is not impressed with Indy
But Indy is a sweet baby.
So that’s where I’m at.
