I seem to have less stories in later years, because a lot of the later years run together more. I don’t know why that is.
We’re already onto Dragoncon 2006 stories now. This was my first year I wasn’t rooming with the girls – I was staying with my BOYFRIEND who I’d met at Dragoncon the year before š I didn’t include that as a story because I’ve already told it numerous times. (Guy pulls on my Leia braid, asks where mutual friend is, I thought this guy was cute, married him)
So, even though I wasn’t rooming with the girls, they ended up hanging out in our room a lot because they were over in the Hilton that year.
Was that the first year Hilton was a host? Or was it 2007? I don’t remember, I don’t know. Anyway, It’s the middle of the day on Friday and we all decide we want to go get drinks at Trader Vic’s while Chase goes off and does something else.
So I decide to put on something easier to wear, and get into my Mustafar Padme costume.
Now, you want to talk about disappearing? Let’s talk about Mustafar Padme.
I don’t think I’ve EVER had a costume less well-received at Dragoncon than this costume. I might as well have been wearing normal clothes. And even then, somebody might have said, hey nice shirt, or something. It was like I turned invisible. I had ONE person take a photo of this costume, and I think that’s only because they saw Chase taking a photo of it for me.
But, I mean, that’s not why we costume, right? It’s for the love it, right? Right? LOL
So anyway, for some reason I thought, let’s put on the costume where I look heavily pregnant and go drink Mai-Tais. That sounds like a great plan. Well, I’m getting dressed, and turn around and tell Ash to punch me in the stomach. My pregnancy pad was a small pillow, wrapped in spandex, and at Comic Con a few months before, we’d had great laughs with Ash pretending to punch my fake pregnancy belly.
So Ash winds up and punches me smack in the pillow. I heard a CRACK, and Ash instantly recoils in pain. Thankfully she hadn’t broken her hand or anything – but I’d forgotten that I’d stored my extra Padme brooch INSIDE the pillow for shipping. She’d made contact with that and punched it right in half.
We figured that’s what we both got for pretending to punch a pregnant lady in the stomach – Ash, a bruised hand, and me, a broken brooch.
