So this morning I got to go make our FastPass+ reservations and I was all excited… until I actually started trying to make reservations.
Part of this I’m going to chalk up the fact I didn’t completely do my research. I read about it partly; and I made some assumptions on how it worked. Some of it is just the clunkiness of the system that needs to be corrected.
Here are the problems I had:
1. Servers going down
Honestly the disney site has more server problems than pretty much any site I’ve dealt with; I had the same thing happen while trying to make a payment a while back, and issues while trying to make dining reservations, too. But to get to the end of the fastpass selection screen, hit “confirm” and to be hit with “Servers are down,” is hugely frustrating. And it was happening every time. I finally discovered it worked better by using the app on my phone, so I gave up on the site.
2. No hopping
Seriously? We are parkhoppers. We never go without getting the parkhopper option. I had no idea I couldn’t pick 1 attraction at one park and 2 at a different park on the same day. This wouldn’t be any kind of big deal if it didn’t look like paper fastpasses will no longer be a thing by the time we get there. Threw a wrench in my whole carefully laid out schedule. I’m guessing with as buggy as this system is right now, being able to hop would make it WORSE – so maybe it’ll be added in the future? I hope so.
3. Forcing me to choose 3
I only wanted one choice one day. It filled in the other two with recommendations. So suddenly I had a fast pass for the thing I wanted to ride and two for things I DIDN’T want to ride. Went to delete the two and I didn’t want – and it deleted all 3. Ummm. No.
It also only gives you 4 selections of times to choose from of all 3. If you want a different time from what they suggest, you have to just pick one, go back out, start over and edit it to pick a different time (and hope they have what you wanted).
4. Didn’t have the times I needed
For a couple of things there were no fastpasses left for the time I needed. The biggest problem was with Fantasmic – I had planned to FP it for us since we’d be coming from Epcot from dinner. No FPs left – or just no FP at all for that showing? I don’t know. I’ve never seen Fantasmic, so I’m not sure, but that was annoying.
Maybe I’ll change my tune once we get there, but I’m going to miss having paper fastpasses. I don’t like planning this detailed this far out.
