Well I’ve been home from Dragoncon for a few days but haven’t posted a thing here – sorry!
It was a good year. Even though I felt like i was a day ahead the whole time (Thursday felt like Friday, Friday felt like Saturday) by the end of it, it felt like it had rushed by way too fast. I was so bummed on Monday because I didn’t want it to be over.
Anyway – general thoughts and things under the cut…
We got into Atlanta Wednesday morning and got checked in with no problems and got a room on the 2nd floor!
I spent the afternoon ironing, unpacking and napping, while Chase took the car to the parking garage, and we spent the evening hanging out with friends š
The view from our room…
That night I snuck outside and did a quick photoshoot of Batgirl, then changed right back out of it. I’ll talk more about my various costumes in other posts later š
Thursday Chase & I got up and had a nice breakfast at Sear. By the time we got done, it was around 10:30 so we headed over to pick up our badges. We walked right into the room, but after that must have been when the system went down, because we ended up stuck in the room for about an hour and a half. The line kept moving but slowly. Right as we got towards the end it sped up, and when we came out the line was backed up all the way down the block again.
While I didn’t wear a costume most of the day Thursday, I did wear my Her Universe Rogue Squadron dress, with Chase in his matching X-wing shirt and shoes. Nerds!
Once Ash and Gabe got there, we met up with them and helped them check into their Hilton room. They headed off for badges and whatnot, and I finally got to get into costume “for real”!
I wore Romana I and we hung out in the AL for a long time, and Chase brought K9 down. There ended up being 3 K9s down there so it was a herd!
The stormtrooper cracks me up.
We did a Romana photoshoot but didn’t get to go where we wanted and had to make the ML level of the Marriott work. I was a little disappointed but not anymore because I seriously love the photos. Again, I’ll post more detailed costume stuff later, but I’ll say I was super pleased with Romana š
Ash is fabulous:
Then I got into Fionna for the rest of the night! Fionna was my go-to comfy costume for the con. There were a ton of other Adventure Time costumes this year, and I had fun high-fiving them everytime I could.
Later that night I put on Supergirl for a while.
This was one of my fav costumes of the con:
So anyway, Friday morning I got up early and put on Belle.
I actually wore it for quite a while, and considered putting it on again both Sunday and Monday, but ended up being too lazy. It is a chore to get into and wear in a crowd.
While I couldn’t make it down to the Sheraton for the Disney shoot in this, I did get my pic with some other fantastic Disney costumers.
After that it was back into Fionna and venturing over to check out the new dealer’s location at Americas Mart, or whatever it’s called.
What a cluster! We shouldn’t have gone right at opening, but still, it was a maze. Hoping it’s better organized next year.
Chase became a hobbit in the meantime.
After that I tossed on Donna Noble Runaway Bride! We wandered over to the Hilton, and on the way back to the Marriott came across a big Doctor Who group heading outside to take photos. They invited me to join them so I did for a while, until it just got so hot outside I had to head back in.
(Speaking of which – this is the hottest year I can remember at Dcon in a while. I mean it was just miserable inside and out. Usually I get hot a handful of times but it was hot the entire con, no matter what costume I was wearing.)
Well when Chase left me with the Doctor Who group, I forgot to ask him for my phone (he had it in his pockets – because you know, no pockets in a wedding dress). So I went back to the Marriott to find him without a way to get in touch with him. I wandered around Marriott lobbies for a good hour without finding him. I kept coming across friends who said they’d seen him, but never could find him. So that was annoying, but during my search I met lots of awesome people LOL
Finally thanks to Jess and Steve he was able to find me. The whole thing was just hilarious to me, because I spent an hour looking for a husband while dressed as a bride, LOL.
I had gotten the times mixed up for the Birds of Prey shoot and ended up not making it over there, because I’d promised to help Chase with his Duck Dynasty costume. He and Derek looked great, hilarious. I threw on Journey’s End Donna and just followed them around for a while.
After a quick dinner, I got Marie Antoinette on and we got in line for the Doctor Who ball.
K9 danced.
We ended up not staying very long once we were in — maybe a half hour — because it was just too loud to talk and too dark to see other costumes. A little disappointing but got to see Peter Davison and Noel Clarke up close š
After that we got into Trillian and Zaphod for the rest of the night!
Saturday morning it was up early for the parade! I was too lazy to properly do my hair for Donna the night before, but oh well. I carried my Marie Antoinette fan with me in the parade, and I’m so glad I did! Good grief it was so hot. Next year I’ve got to wear something cooler in the parade.
I kinda stole this Wilf away from his Donna for a pic but couldn’t help myself; Wilf is my fav companion! And there was a Mr Bean!
After we were done with the parade, I ran over to the food court and got lunch for me and Chase. Then after cooling off and a shower, I decided I’d try to make it over to the Doctor WHo photoshoot in Donna.
I had to run off around 2:15 before it even really started, though – had to get over to change for the He-Man/She-Ra group!
The group was AWESOME… I don’t have a full group pic since both Chase and I were in costume, I’ll add some from another photographer later on.
I was Glimmer and Chase was Bow.
After that we got changed and put on normal clothes and had dinner at the Hilton restaurant. AWFUL service… but the food was good.
While we were there we noticed their bar’s special Dragoncon drink was a Pan Galactic Gargleblaster… so we had to go back over in Trillian and Zaphod to take pics.
The rest of the night was wandering around wearing Supergirl š
Sunday morning I put on Romana again and we hung out with K9. I lost count how many times I got called Princess Leia. I guess it didn’t help we were by the R2 Builders Table for a while LOL
John Barrowman came by us and asked how to get a K9! And then he ran off before I even really digested who had been standing right next to me.
I threw on Lady Blackhawk and we tried the dealer’s room again for a bit, then I put Donna on again for a while.
Ash and I had our John Barrowman photo-op which was a lot of fun.
That night we couldn’t decide where to go to dinner. We tried to go to Glady Knight but the line was out the door, so we went to Vortex. We’d never been and it was SO GOOD. Then ventured back on the Marta.
I wore Fionna the rest of the night. This is not my favourite picture of me but I don’t care, I was totally fangirling over Kermit…
We didn’t stay up very late Sunday, even though I wanted to.
Monday I did something I haven’t done since Dragoncon 2003 – I put on a costume! I guess I didn’t completely wear myself out over the weekend. Usually by monday my feet are angry and my face is super tender from wearing so much makeup, and my eyes are bloodshot. But I actually felt pretty good and ended up wearing Trillian for a good bit of the day.
We tried the dealer’s room again and I bought Kevin a Christmas present and Chase got a Boba Fett statue. I changed and we made an Ikea run, though it was not fruitful (my parents had wanted a nightstand – the website said it was in stock – but it was not.) Back at the hotel, the crowd had died down, so I threw Trillian on again and we did a quick photoshoot in the hamster tube.
We wanted to go eat at Trader vic’s. We went over to the Hilton, and asked at the desk how to get down to the restaurant (I couldn’t remember). The lady at the desk told us how, we went down there – and it was closed. Why didn’t she tell us that at the desk?? LOL weird.
(Other hotel weirdness – after the first night, the maid took our used wash clothes and didn’t leave clean ones. I figured they must be running short, so we switched to hand towels. After two more days, she took our used hand towels and didn’t leave clean ones. Leaving us with only big towels. Nothing to bathe with, nothing to wash my face off with. What the heck?)
So the concierge suggested Max Lager’s. We walked over there and it was good.
Picked up our John Barrowman pic – it’s hilarious.
And then Tuesday we got on up and headed home. š
Stopped and had lunch with my grandma, so that was nice.
Wednesday I was off work and spent the whole day uploading pics!
Here’s the whole gallery… Dragoncon 2013!
There aren’t as many as we usually take, because Chase spent a lot of time taking video. Of course I’ll share his video once it’s up!
