Sunday morning we got to sleep in a little. We had a 10am photoshoot with Eurobeat King, so we got up at 9 to get ready. Cath had moved to the girls’ room the day before, once Ash and Melissa had gotten up and settled – they were on the 36th floor!! LOL
Ewok Leia is really fast & easy to get on – the only drama was getting Chase’s Han boots on AGAIN. Ash knocked on our door around 9:40 — this was my first time getting to see her Ackbar. I mean, I’d seen her work on the hands and I’d seen the mask and everything, but not everything together. She hadn’t put the mask on yet, because it’s difficult to get on and off. Despite the fact she didn’t even have the mask on yet, she proudly told us that she’d already made one kid cry in the elevator on the way down. LOL.
So we headed down to meet up with Al.
We had a great time doing the photoshoot with Al — and the pics turned out AWESOME. Here’s a few of them.
The three of us. It was *really* windy over in that corner! It kept blowing my hair around, which wasn’t such a big thing, made for some nice pics, but it kept blowing my bangs out of the pin holding them in place! LOL
Me & Chase
Ok, about Ash’s Ackbar. She made this in like, a week. She had won the mask on ebay several months ago, sent off a money order (the guy didn’t take paypal, plus he lived in canada so it took a while). Well time went by, no mask, no mask, so it was getting too late for her to do the costume. We were like, well, it’ll come eventually, and you can do it next year. Then, the mask shows up the week before Dragoncon, and she’s so taken by it, she really wants to try to do the costume! So we convened at my house to brainstorm on the rest of the costume.
The Don Post Ackbar hands are impossible to get ahold of. So we decided to build them. They’re foam, dishwashing gloves, and werewolf fingers. LMAO. Covered in latex and painted. They ain’t perfect but for a weekend job, what else can you do?
The shoes are my stormtrooper boots. Pants = scrubs, with the trim I’d gotten for rebel Leia and decided not to use, heat-bonded on. Shirt, from hobby lobby. The vest Ash’s mom made in record time. Ash made the awesome little rank badges, and the belt was a piece of vinyl I had laying around, with little boxes from hobby lobby painted white.
The Marriott has these new windows in the entry way with a waterfall on the otherside. So we took pics like Admiral Ackbar decided to go swimming LOL
And I forgot to put my ring on that morning, so we took some silly pics when we went back up to the room. LOL I love the expression on Chase’s face in this one.
Then Chase headed off to his clone mixer, and Admiral Ashbar (LOL ASHbar!) headed down to the Rebel Legion photo.
Ackbar’s Senior Picture
Then, Ash and I went back upstairs to our rooms and I took a nap. LOL. Then I managed to get up and get my Belle corset on by myself!! Shock. Chase came back and brought us lunch. Then it was time to head to the Disney shoot. I’m really glad he came back, because Ash and I really needed handlers – she needs a little help getting around in stitch (because of the ears), and I’m no good at handling in Belle because of the hoopskirt. So off we went.
The Disney photoshoot turned out to be lots of fun – lots of characters!
Beauty & the Beast LOL
And then I was hopping to change into the new Wonder Woman.
We got everything on me, and we went down the stairs, carrying my shinguards (I can’t go downstairs in them. Up is fine, but not down! LOL) and my wings. Once we were down there, Chase put me together, only to have to take the wings off again so I could fit down the escalator. That got freaking annoying.
I found a place to park it downstairs and we stayed there for a while, before going back up to take pics outside.
This is my favourite shot of it. Sorry about my stinkin’ badge. I may try to remove it one of these days.
Then, I was getting a little headache, so we took the wings off and went upstairs. I put winter Belle on and the girls and I went to the Yule Ball. I’m a little bummed I didn’t get pics of winter Belle, since I had the new wig on, but I’m hoping I’ll find one somewhere.
Ash wore the Leonidas mask on the back of head. It attracted quite a bit of attention.
THIS – IS – THE – YULE BALL!!
Oh, and Miss Kim haunted Ash all weekend
We discovered Cath dances like Jack Black
So we bopped around in the Yule Ball, then went up to the Hyatt Bar and watched a little of the masquerade, before it was time for me to go back and help Chase get into Jango, and me back into Wonder Woman for the midnight superhero group.
After that we thought of going upstairs and changing and coming back down to hang out with Cath and Melissa, who were still wandering around somewhere (I think they ended up at the Cruxshadows show), but we must be getting old, because we opted to pack up our bins and go to sleep LOL
The next morning we got up, and I was going to put on the doll Leia costume, but was too lazy, so that was the only thing I did not wear. I’ll have to take pics of it sometime soon, I guess. Ash and Melissa split early in the morning, since Melissa had to drive all the way back to St Louis that day. Cath was off volunteering. We went over to the dealer’s room and wandered around, then went upstairs and called for a cart. It took an hour and a half, not as long as last year, but still. I took a nap while we were waiting. Then it took forever for Chase to get the van, but we finally got everything loaded and in the van by 1:30.
Cath waiting with all of our junk.
She was heavily armed!
And then she fell asleep.
I slept for a long time, too – almost the entire way from Atlanta to Chattanooga, and then again after that. Not really fair to Chase, he was very sweet though and drove the entire way back to Memphis (Because I am terrified of driving the van.)
We dropped Cath off, then went home, unloaded the van, discovered my car’s battery had died, and our jumper cables had a short. We went and borrowed some from our neighbor, got it started, and then took my car and the van over to my aunt’s house where we were house-sitting. We had to get up at 6:30 the next morning to take the van back, then I went home and went back to sleep until I had to be at work, where I was completely useless, thanks to be tired AND wanting to look at pics online. Whee.
So it was a good time. It lived up to its name: Bizarro Dragoncon. Last year was Weird Dragoncon, but this year was Bizarro. Fun, but not the same as it usually is. The Marriott will rock next year.
I have a costume question I actually posted the other day and then decided to wait until I finished the dcon pics; I’ll post it again later this week. Right now I’m going to go be a bum and play video games and do a fat lot of nothing.
