Out of all my new costumes for Dragoncon, this was my favourite!
I’m very proud of how it turned out. It was fun and comfortable to wear, and for the first time ever I had 10 year old boys wanting their picture with me. LMAO.
We painted the helmet ages ago. Here’s my helmet in-progress:
Here’s my vest in-progress:
Unfortunately I didn’t get many good pictures of the mando at the con, so eventually I’ll go out and take some.
Anyway, my colour scheme was black/silver/dark red, with a few copper accents.
Me and Chase
The most work went into the vest. It’s boned and laces partially up the back. The collar opens in the back and velcros. For all the straps – on the vest, and on the legs, I made them each out of the red suede, and then sewed them onto black fabric backings, then sewed those onto the vest and pants.
The armor Chase made – it’s all heat-shaped styrene. He wants to tinker with it some more.
I need to mess with the capes a little. I sewed them onto the vest, but the weight of them pulls the left side down too much. I’m going to have to figure something else out.
The capes I love – the top layer is weathered and ripped on the edges. The second layer is the red suede, again weathered and ripped up, and burnt in a lot of places. The bottom layer is some cheap black suede-like material I found at walmart, again ripped up and weathered.
Well, everything on this costume is weathered. It was fun. LMAO.
The pants and shirt I was stuck on. I couldn’t find a suitable fabric. I wanted something stretchy, but couldn’t find a good grey stretch. I found some leftover from my dad’s Gandalf robe – enough to make the shirt. I found a similar grey to make the pants, but it wasn’t stretchy. But I figured I’d just make them fitted and it would be ok. Well we could NOT get those pants to look right. Finally mum told me to go find dad’s old Gandalf robe. We cut it up and used it for my pants. LMAO. I had the most fun weathering the pants and shirt. The shirt has a red bantha skull on one arm – heat transfer. I decided not to wear gloves – Chase said to make long sleeves that came to a point. So there ya go. I did some red and black zig-zag stitching on them because I was bored one day, but I like how it looks.
TROLL ATTACK
The belt I found at Home Depot. Chase did most of the work on the belt. He painted it, added the holster from a Jango belt (also painted), and made my belt buckle. The little thingies on the belt are those breath mister things, painted and attached. LOL unfortunately they don’t still have the liquid in them, i thought it would be funny to pull one off and offer to people…
Poor Cath
The gauntlets I’m not sure about. They won’t stay in place, and I’m not sure I like how they look with the whole costume. They’re shinguards repainted and weathered.
The knee pieces were Chase’s. The first night I wore them they were fine, but when I put the suit on saturday again, I put the pants on backwards (well, there is no front or back, but I didn’t pay attention to where the velcro was). By then I had everything else and didn’t want to take all of that off, so I pulled the velcro up and put them on the front… and of course that didn’t stay. So saturday I was without my knee pieces.
I love my gun! It was just a $15 buy off ebay. Chase added all kinds of bits and pieces to it to beef it up, and made the blade and attached it. Then the whole thing was weathered. The straps on it were my first attempt at the strapping for the pants that I didn’t like, so I cut them up and we put them on the gun.
Like I said, the whole thing was so comfortable. It was great. The only time I didn’t like wearing it was in the crush of the Hyatt lobby, while wearing the helmet… kinda freaked me out. LOL
Now Ash needs to get started on her mando…
