dragoncon2014

Below you’ll find my blog posts and photos about our thirteenth trip to Dragoncon in 2014. This includes planning, costume construction, photos and trip reports. For this year my new costumes were Anne Boleyn, Johanna Mason, Peggy Carter, Donna Noble (Fires of Pompeii) and Rogue as Ms Marvel, so construction posts for those costumes are included.

    what a mess

Well, the good news – Indy got a check up and she is 100% fine. I’m so relieved. What a massive stress off of me. I guess it was the perfect storm of her schedule being off, new food, stealing cat food, and Chase and I being closed up in our individual work rooms (which we don’t usually do, but…

    work, work, work

Yesterday got home and did some little things – ironed Peggy again, put the insoles in my Anne shoes, fix the hook and eye on my corset, put the hand loop on my Anne skirt, finished altering my Peggy shirt, etc. Got started on the “bark” of my Johanna shirt. Which basically means I stood there with my arm out…

    A sort-of schedule

So, here is an attempt at a Dragoncon Schedule. Wednesday: Evening – Johanna, for a photoshoot. I will not be wearing this “on the floor” that night. Hoping to go take some shots on the 10th floor (and the elevators before they get too crowded). If anybody else is already in and has a Hunger Games costume and wants to…

    Weekend and ruffles

Indy’s been sick all weekend. Drinking a lot of water and peeing way more than usual. She’s had several accidents, just since late last week. At first thought she was just off her “schedule” after she got sick to her stomach weekend before last, because that’s happened several times before – but now not sure. Hoping it’s just a bladder…

    Ruffles ruffles ruffles

I have this great Johanna gif that I have not gotten an opportunity to use so I’m just going to use it everytime I make a post about my costume. I got the chiffon overskirt cut and sewn together, and pinned in place. I’m going to have to handsew it in place before trying to machine sew it. Then, onto…

    Anne

I took some “mostly finished” pics of Anne on the dressform at lunch. As I was messing with it brought to mind the handful of things I still need to do. -Reposition hook-and-eye on corset -Test fit of back panel with it all on – maybe replace hook-and-eyes with snaps? -fray check the zipper interior -Sew ribbon onto bottom hem…

    Blah!

Can it just be time for Dragoncon yet? Tuesday night I got nothing done. Headache was so bad I just laid on the couch and slept until I got up and went to bed. Last night back on the horse, dyed my Donna wig slightly darker, worked on Johanna. Got the top section totally finished – yay! So now I…

    Ruffley

I finished my Johanna wig last night. Then I played with paint on my leather strips, and then I worked on the upper section of the dress. But I didn’t take pictures of any of that. I did get up early this morning and cut out some ruffles, gathered them, and pinned them onto one of my insert pieces to…

    This weekend

Went to Mema’s. Slept, ate, did a fat lot of nothing mostly. And this 2 weeks before dragoncon! But we came home early yesterday (with a sick puppy in tow. I think she over-indulged this weekend and made herself sick. she’s still not feeling well.) and I dug in. I mostly finished Fires of Pompeii Donna. It took approximately 2…

    Dragoncon round-up

Where I’m at Anne Boleyn: Mostly done. Chase is working on the crown. Finished the jewelry last night. Need to try it on once more and make sure the back panel is sitting correctly, and readjust the buttons that aren’t sitting right. And get some insoles for my shoes. Peggy: I need to curl the wig again, but otherwise very…

    Yesterday…

I went home sick again. Feeling worse than the day before, I’m pretty sure it’s sinus stuff. But I’m better today, head’s still foggy but better. I did get a little work done last night. I got my base shirt for the “wood” part made. Got the front pleats sewn back down correctly. But I forgot to take any kind…

    Wigs, chiffon and migraines

Yesterday I ended up going home at lunch with a bad migraine. Meds weren’t doing much of anything I felt pretty puke-y, probably from trying to take too much medicine. Went home, slept, felt a little better after that and tried to get some work done. Today it’s more of the same. I think it’s sinus stuff that has turned…

    Today’s update

I got the top section of chiffon sewn in place and the edges cauterized. Started on the second section – after I took this picture I got it sewn in place, too. Tonight I’ve got to finish the back edge because it’s really hard to pin and work with stuff on it when it’s all droopy because there’s no closure.…

    Johanna chiffon

Got my Anne Boleyn jewelry mostly finished last night – got one more pearl to attach – and the crown to go, but that’s one thing off my list. I played around with my Johanna chiffon and got at least the top section figured out. It’s not going to be exact but at this point I’m just hoping for a…

    Johanna, etc

So gosh, what all did I do this weekend? So much work to remember. Friday night, saw Guardians of the Galaxy, a lot of fun. Saturday morning had a Spin-a-thon I went to as Wonder Woman, fun. Saturday afternoon-evening, family cookout with way too much food. Around all that, I finished my surprise costume! Top to bottom. All done. Would…

    Surprise costume updates

It’s kinda hard to talk updates when I’m not saying what it is yet. but I’ll try. I got the backs put together last night (outside and lining), and pinned to the front sections. After that I had to stop, since I need my front design cut out (Chase is doing that for me) so I can sew it on…

    HAAAAT

I got my new hat for Marie Antoinette, omg I love it. Can’t wait to decorate it this weekend. Also, now that my Peggy wig has fully dried – I really like it. I don’t think I need to recurl it. I think I can just jump right into styling, so that’s nice!

    26 days

26 days til we leave and I’m really starting to feel the pinch. Freaking out a little bit. I’m hoping to cross some small things off my list this weekend and really dig into Johanna. I’m hoping to have my surprise costume pretty much done by the end of this weekend — I think I could have the bulk of…

    Belle

No, not my costume, last night I went to see the movie Belle which was a nice break from working and the costumes were very pretty. So I didn’t get any sewing done to post about today, but I did play around with my Peggy wig some more. My original was too dark, as you may remember me griping about…

    DragonCon Costume List

Costumes I’m (more than likely) bringing to Dragoncon: Donna Unicorn & Wasp: 10% done. If I finish it enough to wear. I’m only focusing on the front panels right now. If I don’t get it done enough, I may throw together a Fires of Pompeii Donna instead. Anne Boleyn: 98% done YAY Peggy Carter: 95% done – finishing wig and…
