crash out
Yesterday was the day of reckoning for the new disneybound Leia dress. But first, let’s rewind and talk about the rest of the week.

First shipment of fabric came in for picnic Padme. I definitely did not get enough but at least I got a coupon I can use to buy some more.

Finished painting the buttons and got them sewn on (minus the second one which was slightly out of place so I took it off and sewed it back on later)
Friday my parents were on their way home from Hot Springs. I looked at them on Find My around midday I thought their position on the map was a little weird but figured they took a detour. At 3:30 mom called and said they’d gotten lost, and asked if I could go pick up the dogs from boarding before they closed, because they weren’t going to get home in time.

So I got myself dressed and went and got the girls. Played with them for a while. Turns out my parents’ gps in their car had somehow got rerouted and they’d ended up going completely the wrong direction for about 80 miles. I told them next time they are on a road trip and I see them somewhere unexpected, I’m calling them to check LOL

Saturday we went and picked up Kevin (seen here being guarded by Winston)

Ran some errands

Found a lost Valentine’s Day balloon in a parking lot and brought it home like the hoarders we are.

Then went out to dinner with my parents for their anniversary! 52 years!

Sunday we got up and went mall walking. Got lunch in the food court then I was going to have Kevin practice using Find My Friends to locate us if he got lost (he also got a new phone case/lanyard so he doesn’t struggle so much with carrying his phone around). But he’s got something in his settings not letting him use that feature, so gotta figure that out later.

Shopped a bit, only things we bought were a shirt for Chase and burger candy for Kevin.
After a nap I went and made myself put on the Leia dress and figure out what’s not right.

It’s still just reading as houserobe. Or hospital gown.
Ok number one villain is the shoes. Because they are giving

Major bummer is I’ve painted them so I can’t return them. Ugh. But definitely not wearing these.
I tried a few other shoes I had — my silver sandals from Aelsa look ok (not great) but they are completely flat and rub my toes so they are out. I tried my ankle high brown boots which was also ok, but also not great. I just don’t know what to do with the shoes. I don’t want to wear tennis shoes because that’s not the vibe. I’ve been looking through other options off and on since last night and nothing is coming up that’s park friendly and cute and the vibe?

The vibes are 70s, southwestern, kinda hippie. Here’s the Luke shirt Kevin will be wearing whether I stick with my new dress or not. I feel like seeing them together you get my vision.
But the shoes are just part of the problem. I’m also not loving the hair — but I only kinda halfway did it to get the idea of it, so maybe tonight I try it again and spend more time on it.
I posted a crash out video to close friends on IG asking for help figuring out why this doesn’t work. (On close friends because I wanted opinions, but not a LOT of opinions) After chatting with folks all night I ended up deciding that one of the things throwing me off is how heavy it makes my upper section look.
I took this dress up EVERYWHERE — except the sleeves/the seam connection of the sleeves to the dress (it’s raglan), and the width of the neckline. So I decided since I’ve shortened and narrowed every other area of this pattern, maybe I need to do it there too. Maybe there’s just too much fabric up there.
So very very gingerly (because this fabric is impossible to unpick from and I’ve already taken this collar off twice), I unpicked one side of the collar, and took up that front raglan seam to remove some of the fabric in that area. I partially sewed it all back together (long stitch so I can take it out hopefully a little easier if I need to) to see what it was looking like.

Viewer left is the edited side. Is it better? I think? I do think I need to do a little more and take a little bit more out of the sleeve gathering right there on top, I’ll do that tonight and then do the other side too.
But tbh I have no idea if it helps.

Here’s that arm on me — but this was before I sewed it and trimmed out the excess.
Also suggestions were shortening it, so I have it pinned up shorter to get an idea. It pisses me off that I do like it shorter because I wanted long and flowy. My last leia disneybound was short! I wanted longer this time 🙁 I’ve already shortened it twice! Or three times? I can’t remember. So I’m putting that off for now, I’m not committing to shorter yet.
I still don’t know. Chase is like “take both your old one and the new one and decide when we get there” but A) I’m not flying with unnecessary stuff and B) I’m not crashing out and trying to change outfits/hair the morning of our disney day. It’s one or the other.
I told Chase it would be totally different if we were going to Disney World, where we are there for 4 or 5 days and I could wear this for a couple of hours and then go back to the hotel and change into something else. But for this I have one day and we’re there all day, not leaving. I don’t want to be stuck in something I’m not loving.
Goals this week:
1. Finish the alterations at the neckline/sleeve
2. Figure out shoes
3. Try it all on again and do the hair better
Still on the fence about even taking it. I may just save it for next WDW trip and that’ll give me time to figure out new shoes. At least I have backup and I can just take my old one.

Got news this morning Catty Bob has crossed the rainbow bridge 🙁 He’s back with Mema and Daddy Bob 🙁
