i can go the distance

What a weird week! Let’s start off with the new photoshoot pics first.

New Padme lake dress pics!

I restyled the wig for this. It was a pain in the butt. But worth it. I do need to fix a couple of things before I take this to dragoncon this year – first, I did make it a little too tight, so it’s sitting a little further back on my forehead than I’d like. If I put it where I wanted it at my forehead, the end of the back curve came up too high and looked weird. So I just need to sew that back curve down like half an inch. And I also need to sew the bands on better – I just did the bare minimum here and they were already shifting.

New 18th century pink dress pics!

So this was a reshoot, because we did actually do white backdrop pics of this back in 2017. But I had given up on trying to bustle it, so it didn’t look the way I wanted – AND, I had altered the straps of the stays, causing them to sit too high up on my chest, and I nearly passed out while shooting this in that 2017 shoot. I know I know stays shouldn’t be making you pass out, but shifting them up just that tiny bit put too much pressure on my chest – especially because I had to lace it as tight as possible to get this to close correctly. Bad mix of things, all of which I fixed in 2019 when I reworked this whole costume. Fixed the bustles and finally got them the way I wanted, reworked the closure system on the dress itself and fixed the stays’ straps. It was MUCH more comfortable after that. And now I finally have good pics of the reworked version. I also restyled the wig AGAIN! I think at this point I’m just going to restyle the wig everytime I wear it LOL

It doesn’t fit great, there’s a lot of wrinkles especially in the back, but it’s nitpicky, I’m so glad to have white backdrop pics of this I actually like!

So Chase started feeling bad last week, stayed home from work the rest of the week. It was weird having him home all day while I worked.

Luna enjoyed it.

Saturday he was feeling better so we ran some errands, and then as we were heading to lunch, he found a gorgeous midcentury dresser on fb marketplace EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for. It had just been posted, so it was still available, so we changed course, ran by an ATM and went and got it.

She’s gorgeous!!

So in 1995, when my parents and I moved into the house they still live in, we went to Scan Interiors and bought me entirely new bedroom furniture. I got the bunkbed with the fold out futon that I loved, a desk, an entertainment center, 2 bookcases, and a dresser. All black. Here I am 30 years later still using some of it – namely the dresser! That had been my dresser for 30 years! Broken drawer and all! I’ve been looking for something midcentury for a while now to replace it.

(I also still have the bookcases up in Kevin’s room. And I think the dresser is going to go up there too, after Chase fixes the drawer. If I can change out the handles I think it’ll work for his Star Wars theming.)

Now that I have that there though, I feel like I need to rethink the art on the wall. I think my Kermit pic either needs to move or change to something horizontal.

It is only 4 drawers vs 5 of my old dresser, so I had to clean out my t-shirts as I moved them over. A lot got sent upstairs for another tshirt quilt one day.

Chilled the rest of the day, and I started feeling bad around dinner time – not like Chase’s bad, but my stomach was upset. Felt pukey the rest of the night. Emetrol kept it at bay. I think it was the queso from Firebirds I had for lunch.

Sunday I got up to tackle my sewing room. I got it mostly cleaned up, there’s still a little to do. Main thing is photoshoot stuff is down, most of my costumes are put away and back in the closet closet. There’s a few more things to put away, and I need to vacuum and finish putting away Christmas, but then I can start on the new Leia disneybound.

Speaking of, I really need to decide what costumes I want to make this year so I can fabric shop while we are in LA. I did make a purchase towards one thing I want to do – Padme’s picnic dress. I got my sequins.

Besides that, I had a lazy day. I laid on the couch and read the rest of the day. It was nice.

Chase made me a cheese and cracker snack with our initials and a Luna face.

So Chase got me the first 5 ACOTAR books for Christmas. I knew absolutely nothing about these books going in – I didn’t even read the back. I just knew that my friends liked them and there were fantasy balls based around and some of those balls had some drama. (Because my algorithm knows to show me the drama about stuff like that LOL). So I had no idea what it was about when I started reading. I’m on the 3rd one now. I’m glad I stuck with the first book, because the first half of the first book I was kinda… not into it. Like it felt like the traditional Beauty and the Beast story with a meh, uninteresting faerie guy instead of a Beast. But it got good when she got to Under the Mountain. And then we get to the second book and I’m like… ooooooh that meh uninteresting-ness was not incorrect LOL I’m trying not to look up anything about the books at this point, no fanart, no nothing because I’m enjoying reading it with no spoilers.

Anyway, I wanted to keep reading, but I was about to scratch my face off last night because the bridge of my nose was hurting so bad from my glasses. The pressure was SO bad I had to make Chase come massage my forehead and between my eyes, LOL. My new glasses are supposed to be here this week, so fingers crossed they don’t do this like my pair ones do.

Last little bit, finally got this Leia print framed and up in the dining room.

Had had it since 2020. I’ve had it lightly pinned into the wall (with the pins through the plastic it came in, not through the print) for a couple of years, so it’s nice to finally have it properly on the wall.

Plans this week:
1. finish getting sewing room clean
2. start on Leia dress
3. decide on a new wordpress theme so I can start updating this site
