Honestly this was probably the hardest concept I worked on. It just fought me every inch of the way. This was based on some of the original concept art for the parade gown, but was different enough I felt it could be it’s own thing.
I think the hardest problem I had was with the colours. I wanted to keep it light and bright – I felt like a darker or saturated colour would weight it down too much. But trying to do that without veering into pinks and yellows like the actual onscreen Parade Gown was difficult! I played with so many options… I don’t know how many times I changed the colours on this thing. Finally settled on lavenders/dusky purples and white. Bodice/underskirt that duskey purple. Ombre-dyed floral embroidered overskirt with white tabards with painted designs. Beaded silver waistband.
I felt like the large shoulder pieces should be very light… very thin chiffon sewn around a form, so the shoulders are still slightly visible through it. Same fabric for the lightweight cape piece.
In my head I kinda felt like this is something she wore towards the end of her Queen-dom.
