Glinda – Glinda of Oz
Made for Dragon Con 2008
Other Appearance: N/A

I really wanted to make a book-inspired Glinda costume, similar to my Ozma costume from 2004. I built this for Dragon Con in 2008, and made some unfortunate missteps.
I built the dress around a base – the base has a layer of dyed pink chiffon sewn on, to act as a “petticoat” for the outer dress. This was really similar to how I built Ozma.
I thought my pink fabric I used for the outer layer was transparent enough for the layers of chiffon to be seen through – but it wasn’t. So dyeing all that fabric was a moot point.
I cobbled the dress together in between other projects, and sewed some crystal beads on along the neckline. It wasn’t til I was at the con, looking at myself in the mirror, that I realized I’d totally, 100% forgotten to add the sleeves. So it just didn’t look right because I completely forgot to make a piece of the costume.
The wig was a cheap wig I bought online, built up with foam, glued into place and created the “netting” over it using a rattail cord. Chase made the crown for me, using a kid’s crown as a base and building up the parts using other found items. Unfortunately I never tried the crown on WITH the wig before the con so they didn’t fit right together. The proportions were also totally off.

I wore it for maybe an hour at the con. It looked ridiculous. I thought about finding my scrap fabric and adding the sleeves and rebuilding the wig/crown, but never did. Don’t have the scraps of the fabric anymore, either. I’ve been thinking about seeing if I could turn it into a Charlotte (Princess and the Frog) dress..

So yeah. Disaster start to finish.
