Princess Leia – Star Wars (Hoth)

Made for: Nashville Comic & Horror Fest 2006

Background: One of my all time favourite Leia costumes. I actually planned to do this way back in 1999 but never got to!

Journal Entries: Read more at my Hoth Leia tag

Related Costumes: Bespin Escape Jumpsuit, Bespin Leia, Marvel Comics Leia

Patterns Used: KwikSew 2722 (altered), basic vest pattern which I don’t have in my index

Jumpsuit:

I had planned on having the Hoth suit ready for a convention in January 2006, but I didn’t have enough time so I only put the jumpsuit together, then finished the rest for an event in October. For the jumpsuit construction, see my Bespin Jumpsuit page.

Vest:

For the vest, I started with a simple vest pattern. After getting the general pieces cut out and sewn together (the main fabric, batting, and lining fabric), I cut it apart and sewed it back together with the piping where I needed it. Then I drew lines on as guides for the quilted sections, and stitched that. The collar was made without a pattern and added. I also added the little breast pocket for the rank badge.

Accessories:

The rank badge Chase made for me. The gloves I bought online, as well as the boots – I made the boot covers out of leftover suede and they velcro on. Chase made my wrist piece later – I had it for Adventurecon the next year.

History:

One of my favourite Leia costumes and one of my favourite costumes I’ve done 🙂

2025 notes: A few years ago, I cut the back panel out of the suit and installed a stretch panel, hoping to help the suit fit a little more comfortably. It doesn’t match exactly so I can’t wear it without the vest anymore. One of these days I am going to remake the entire thing and make the jumpsuit much more comfortable.
