Mara Jade – Star Wars (Arica disguise)
Made for: Dragoncon 2010
Background: Thought this one would be fun to tackle.
Journal Entries: Read more at my Arica tag
Patterns Used:
KwikSew 2004
Bodysuit:
I bought a stretch netting online and dyed it black-to-blue gradient, which I thought would be neat instead of a solid colour. I used a pattern for the bodysuit, it’s one layer of flesh tone spandex and one of the netting. It zips up the back. The design on the front I made of chiffon with a lining backing, I handsewed it onto the suit using embroidery floss for a little more texture.
Skirts/Sleeves:
I made the skirts without a pattern, from two layers of blue chiffon. They’re attached in the front, back and on one side – they snap closed on the other side. I do need to shorten the front one, it ended up being a little long.
The sleeves were 1 layer of chiffon, and are sewn onto two silver D-rings at the back of the bodysuit. I used leather ties for the upper arms, and for some reason I could not find silver bracelets for the end. I ended up buying brass ones and sanding the finish off.
Accessories:
The wig was my Zatanna wig. The headband was cut out of a piece of silver plastic, punched holes in each end and added leather ties to tie it on. I’m not a fan of the foot-less tights look, so I went with boots ala the miniature figure, and wore my black suede Yuuko boots.
History: I’ve hardly gotten to wear this because after wearing it all of 5 minutes at Dragoncon, the heels of BOTH boots broke. I glued them back together for GMX, where they promptly broke again. I took them to get repaired, and they said they’d never hold a repair because they were built wrong. Boo! I love those boots. I managed to wear them for a photoshoot, but if I’m going to wear it again I’ll have to get new boots.
