Patterns Used:
Simplicity 7274
Fabric:
I found this fabric locally – I saw it at a fabric store near my grandma’s house, while I was visiting her. I kept it in mind and went back a couple of months later, hoping they still had it… they did! I really liked it, it’s vinyl with a faux suede texture that has a nice “dragon-y” skin look. (Though the vinyl tends to pick up any light source and look a bit shiny – even worse in a flash photo. But I just loved that scale look it had.)
Pants/Jacket:
I used the Simplicity Civil War pattern for the pants and jacket – the pants are pretty simple, just a drawstring waist. The jacket is also pretty basic, just followed the pattern, and it’s not lined or anything. It velcros shut up the front, and I including a couple of “loops” of vinyl so I could string some leather through as a tie closure.
Accessories:
I made a matching vinyl belt piece that laces up in the front, with some silver hooks I bought locally attached. I bought faux fur and trimmed the jacket, belt, gauntlets, and boot covers in it. I wore a white peasant-sort of shirt underneath this that I already had. The gauntlets and boot covers I made of my vinyl. I used leather ties to tie all those pieces “closed”. The boots I had, and the goggles I bought and covered in the fabric. The wig and gloves were also ones I had. When I shot this on the white backdrop in 2016, I had reused that wig for other things so I didn’t have it anymore – I wore my curly Anna Valerious wig with it instead, just braided back.
History:
I had a lot of fun wearing this with my mom as Menolly and my godmom as Moreta! I haven’t gotten to wear this much more, I did do a photoshoot with a photographer with it back in 2004 but never got those photos back. Finally dragged it out for a white backdrop shoot in 2016 and was surprised it was still in great condition.
