Belle – Beauty and the Beast (Village Dress)

Made for: Halloween 2007

Background: I made a version of this dress for Dragoncon 2006, which I wasn’t happy with and never wore. I always planned to remake during 2007.

Dress:

None of my fabric I was particularly happy with, but I went with them since I didn’t want to order anything online – the entire thing is basic cotton I bought at Hancock Fabrics. I used a Kwik Sew pattern for the blue dress, using the blue cotton. It’s simple, I didn’t deviate from the pattern much. Zips up the back. Not only was I not happy with the fabric choice but I also wasn’t all that happy with the fit, it just always looked kinda dumpy.

Shirt:

The shirt I made using a basic pattern – not sure what which, but just used it for making the basic body shape and start of the sleeves. I made the sleeves fuller and added the collar. This was also made out of cotton.

Accessories:

The apron is from my 2006 version (it’s just a square of hemmed fabric, pleated onto a matching waistband with a velcro closure in the back), and the shoes I bought online (Target). My bow is just a strip of hemmed blue cotton.

History:

I’ve since sold this one, and made a new version in 2009 (though I didn’t finish it til 2012).
