Patterns Used:
Simplicity 5006, Kwiksew 3239
Bodice:
I started out by making a bodice of green cotton and spiral steel boning, then did the outer layer in green spandex and green metallic scale fabric – I had found this fabric and really wanted to use it somehow, so I used it for the side panels of the bodice, and the skirt. For the rest of the outer layer, I alternated the shiny and matte sides of the spandex between panels, and also made one of the side front panels out of horizontal pieces just to give it a little more visual interest.
Belt/Gauntlets:
I used a pale green stretch vinyl for the gauntlets and belt. For the gauntlets, I alternated the right and wrong sides again between pieces so some would be more matte and some more shiny. On the belt I did some stitching along the sides, and some beading in the front to make it stand out a bit more.
Skirt:
I made each skirt piece by fusing the green metallic scale fabric to cotton – besides added some weight to the flimsy scale fabric, it also kept the scales from flipping open all over the place. I attached them to a “waistband” to keep them all together, then glued that waistband to the interior of the belt. After Emerald City ComicCon, looking at pictures, I decided the skirt panels were too long, so I put it on and had my husband cut them a bit shorter while it was on me so we didn’t go too short.
Pants:
The pants are my favourite. I started out by making simple boot covers out of black matte spandex, and sewing them up the front, leaving the back open. Then my very patient husband cut out each ring of green spandex for me (he has a steadier hand than I do…). I sewed each ring onto the boot covers by hand, then went over them again on the machine once they were in place. After I sewed them up the back, I realized I might as well make it easier and make them pants, so I used a pattern to make a pair of shorts, and attached them to that.
Crown:
Made of plastic, vac-formed over my headcast and painted. The original crown was a much smaller design, and after ECCC I decided I didn’t love it, so we made a second one that was a bit larger and I felt that looked better on my face.
Wig:
I’ve gone through a few wigs with this costume. My first wig didn’t work out at ECCC, so I had to use my Ms Marvel wig which wasn’t what I had planned on. I then wore my Magik wig with at Dragoncon, which still wasn’t what I was after. I finally fixed the original issue with a new wig and a hairpiece, which is what you see in my white backdrop photos.
History:
My white backdrop shots of this costume are some of my favs. I’m pretty pleased with how it all turned out.

Please note that none of these costumes are for sale! This is my personal portfolio.
