Patterns Used:
I don’t remember. Maybe Butterick 6767 for the skirt.
Wig:
The wig I bought online. I cut a styrofoam ball in half, painted it pink, wired it onto the wig and wrapped the hair around it. The hair was just pinned on so these didn’t last long after MTAC.
Top/Skirt:
I found a ton of black and white crushed velvet on the remnant table for super cheap, so that’s what I used (not what I would have used now but we have to learn!) I used a simple elastic-waisted pattern for the skirt, and a camisole-type pattern for the top.
I made a pattern for the “apron” piece, made it out of hot pink satin, and attached it to the bottom of the black top. Some of the details were appliqued on, some I painted. At the time I couldn’t find a backview of Ruby Moon, so I guessed (ended up being wrong, oh well!) – I did two small streamers of the hot pink fabric on either side, instead of another “apron” piece on the back.
Wings:
The wings my dad helped me make – we made a wireform, then put the sheer black organza on it and sewed it on. I spray painted the red spots onto them. The wings tie on with ribbons similar to a backpack.
Accessories:
I bought the shoes online. I made the collar without a pattern, and it was a butt to make. Trying to make all those points out of just one layer of that pink satin with no lining? LOL no wonder it was hard. I made the butterfly brooch and earrings out of craft foam.
History:
Due to the fragility of the wings, I only wore this at MTAC in 2001 – I wore it once or twice more for quick photoshoots but probably nothing since 2001. Surprisingly, the wings have held up just fine over multiple moves – one day I’ll put everything back together and take some new photos.

Please note that none of these costumes are for sale! This is my personal portfolio.
