Belldandy – Ah! My Goddess
Made for: Katsucon 2003
Background: I had made plans to make this costume for my cousin in 2002, but it never materialized, so I decided to make it for myself.

Patterns Used:
Butterick 4301
Dress:
I used the same pattern I’d used for Urd, with a blue china silk for the dress, since it was nice and lightweight. I just used the pattern option with the fuller skirt for this costume. I added the “collar” around the shoulders and raised the split in the front, and changed the shape of the back. Also added straps. For all the triangles, I found some yellow vinyl at the fabric store, and I drew a pattern for them and cut them out, and we sewed them to the front of the dress and the collar. I really love how that part turned out. I added the little white flounce sleeves, and made the train two layers – one of sparkle organza, and the other leftover fabric from my Padme Lake dress. They are both attached to the dress under the collar at the back. I left them as long as possible because I wanted the drama.
Underskirts:
I made 3 separate skirts for underneath it – the uppermost one is attached to the blue dress at the front split and also at the side seams. The second is part of a butchered tulle petticoat, which helps give the dress a bit more “poof.” The third is one is a simple white skirt made of a lightweight crepe material, with an elastic waist, I wear that one underneath everything else.
Accessories:
I made the gloves and footies of a blue stretch knit material. My dad helped me make the necklace and earrings out of metal – the necklace has a foam backing, and ties on. The earring pieces are glued onto clip-on backers (I do not have pierced ears.) I bought all the bracelets.
Wig:
The wig is two wigs sewn together – the shorter one making the pieces hanging down in the front and the “antenna” I styled, and the longer one which makes up the ponytail. My friend Frankie thinned out the ponytail a bit to lighten the weight of it for me. I also redid the antenna in summer of 2004 for a tighter look.
Wings:
I added the angel wings for A-Kon 04. I did not make these lovely wings… sadly! I found them on ebay, though I had to devise a harness for them that wouldn’t mess up the dress, since I hadn’t made it to go with wings. (And the wings were not constructed to be worn by a person). They’re not easy to wear but I love how they look. The harness I made is essentially a little backpack made of layers of foam, with 4 metal “spokes” coming out of the sides. These spokes fit into the drilled holes on the inside of the wings. The harness goes on with clear bra straps and can be unhooked to be threaded underneath the collar part of the costume.
History:
This is still one of my all-time favourite costumes I’ve done!

Please note that none of these costumes are for sale! This is my personal portfolio.
