FAQ Friday: Corsets, Hoopskirts, Petticoats

Today's question is... Where did you get your Belle hoopskirt? Where do you buy your corsets? I'm lumping these together to make one post about all the fun things like corsets and hoopskirts and petticoats! Corsets I don't claim to be a corset expert at all (I seem to start a lot of FAQ Fridays like this... "I don't know what I'm talking about, but..."); if you really want to ...

Shopping, etc

Went to Mema's this weekend, and hit up the fabric stores up there. Managed to find another partial bolt of my Johanna chiffon, so I bought up what was left. Also got some paint I needed, along with some beads. Also got 7 yds of one fabric for another costume I've wanted to do since 2004 and might actually now be happening....... 10 years later. Got some neat Marvel and Disney fabric I ...

FAQ Friday: Surviving a Con in Costume

Today's question is... I can't handle being in costume more than an hour or two at a convention. It's too hard. Do you have any tips on being able to stay in costume longer? Sometimes wearing a costume at a convention – especially a big convention like SDCC or Dragoncon – can be overwhelming and extremely difficult. So here are my tips. 1. Don't stay in costume if you're tired of it. The ...

MidSouthCon!

Friday I ended up staying home from work with an awful migraine that was making me sick to my stomach - I don't think the remnants of my head cold helped, either. Friday night I felt awful. So I was worried about Saturday! I had a friend's baby shower to go to in the morning, and Chase's birthday dinner that night, with MidSouthCon in between, so it was going to ...

Stuff I’m thinking about wearing to MidSouthCon

We're only going up on Saturday so I'm only wearing one (maybe 2, if it's easy to change in the car) costume... I'm thinking about: 1. Donna Noble - because I'm lazy and this is the easiest costume to wear. 2. Valkyrie - might be cold. 3. Emma Frost - might be cold. 4. Marie Antoinette - i want to wear it but probably too big to deal with. 5. Batgirl - because I want to ...

FAQ Friday: How did you learn to sew?

Today's question is... How did you learn to sew? What kind of sewing machine do you use? I remember very clearly, when I was in school, there was talk of adding a Home Ec class. Being the tomboy I was, I told my mom, I REFUSE to take Home Ec. I will NOT learn to sew. Gross! I'd rather take Shop Class! My, how the mighty have fallen! I was ...

Pic Upgrades

Yall have seen me mention I'm going through old pics and replacing them with newer, bigger versions. Here's an example. When I first took these in 2009, I rushed to throw them up online and didn't really take too much care with them - they were too contrasty. I also only uploaded them at 600 px tall - sometimes using it at only 500 px tall. I went through them all and took ...

Personal Opinion Time

I'm really tired of seeing the Rubies Ame-Comi Wonder Woman costume. And while I'm at it, I'm tired of seeing the Rubies version of Clone Wars/Gentle Giant style Leia.

FAQ Friday: Body Paint

Today's question is... What kind of body paint do you use? I'll share with you guys what I've personally used in the past and what I like, since my experience with body paint is rather limited. 1. Experience #1 - liquid latex and Mehron Fantasy FX Face Paint. The first time I ever had to paint myself, I tried liquid latex and Mehron Fantasy FX Face Paint. It was awful. So here ...

Overly Critical Indy

"I feel like the colour story of your sequins could be stronger. Try more turquoise as opposed to be royal blue." I couldn't really get a decent photo of my in-progress Elsa bodice - in the yellow light of my office it looks grey, in the sun it looks pale, pale blue. Really I don't know why I'm concerned about it since it's all going to get covered up by ...
