#0018 – The Queen’s Villa

Based on McCall 8591 from 1936.

Anybody who knows me knows the lake dress is my favourite Padme look, so I really had to think about what I wanted to do here. In the end, I decided a 1930s slinky bias cut dress with a low back was the best option to get the feel of the lake dress while staying in a midcentury vibe, with a draped piece at the shoulder to sort of stand in for the overdress of the original. I did think about adding a wrap that would go over it to also nod to the loose fitting overdress, but that would definitely be a second piece of art in addition to this, because I wanted the dress to stand on its own. So maybe I’ll do a second version of this art one day with that included.
