Saturday morning I was up and getting in costume, while Chase got Kevin into his Luke costume.
Thankfully, Edith was easy to get into. Like I (think I) mentioned the other day, I decided to forego the wound prosthetics, which made getting ready much faster.
We got to the convention center early, and….. parked in the wrong parking lot. We parked at the wrong concourse, but by the time we figured this out, we’d already paid. THANKFULLY… a guy drove up in a golf cart, gave us a ride over to the shuttle which had just pulled up, and the shuttle took us over to the convention center. It was completely painless and pretty awesome. We got our wristbands really quickly, then had about a 30 minute wait til the con actually opened. Once it did, we headed in and got a quick breakfast first, because we were starving.
My iphone photos are unfortunately very minimal since I was wearing gloves and baby-sitting the train of my gown AND keeping up with Kevin, but Chase took a bunch I should have shortly.
I should have ironed Kevin’s tunic, but I didn’t think of it til we didn’t have time to deal with it.
We made our way around the aisles. Kevin bought a keyblade! Chase and I bought some prints. Chase got a couple of cds of a band he likes. I bought a little flower crown to wear at the parks next day. I missed almost everyone I wanted to see and say hi to though, but I did see a few folks so that was nice 🙂 Maybe we need to come back next year?
I was pretty happy with Edith. It was comfortable and cool, though in a crowded convention hall a wig like that is like wearing blinders and I’m glad I added a loop to the end of the train so I could carry it easier.
We headed out after several hours and caught the shuttle back over to our parking lot, followed by the same golf cart guy giving us a ride to our car. I was starving by that point so we stopped at the McDonald’s for a snack.
Chase took this quick iphone pic of me back at the hotel… the pink-ish coral walls of our Pop Century building worked pretty well for it LOL
I washed up, tried to save my wig hair, and we all got changed and headed to Epcot.
We did Test Track first!
We also saw a guy dressed as the 10th Doctor several times. Who was this guy, I know he’s gotta be a friend-of a friend somehow LOL I wanted to take Kevin’s picture with him but I didn’t want to get him in trouble!
Then I was still starving so we started around world showcase grabbing snacks at booths. I had to get my fav, the brisket burnt ends hash in the America pavilion. But I also really liked the chicken in Italy!
We did Pick-a-Pearl in Japan again. I let Kevin do it for me, so that was fun. He also bought a Kingdom Hearts shirt. Then we went and laid in the shade of big staircase in Japan and ate Yan Yan and Pocky and tried to cool off/rest (I had a developing migraine by this point which I firmly blame on my wig earlier in the day). Then we headed over and saw the American Adventure, before heading back to Italy to see if we could get into our Tutto Italia dinner reservation earlier. (They got us in a half hour earlier than our reservation time! We can generally count on them for that…)
I love Tutto Italia, maybe it’s walking around all day and being exhausted but the food is always filling and comforting. Kevin loved his spaghetti.
He kept talking like Mario though, and we kept telling him to cut that out… and then the waiter came up and asked how things were and Kevin said “Fantastico!” and the waiter said “Ah! Bravo!” and it was really cute. Then they all came out and sang to him for his birthday and brought him a chocolate cake. He loved it.
We were just finishing up when Illuminations started, so Kev and I went out and caught the end of it.
Kevin’s mom likes to tell this story about how when Kevin was little, they went to Disney World and were hanging around the Mexico pavilion. Suddenly she looked around and Kevin was gone. She panicked for a minute and then turned around and saw him – posing stock still like a statue in front of the pyramid. So we had to recreate it.
Sunday morning was yet another early day. Kevin insisted on wearing his Legend of Zelda shirt (he got a lot of compliments on it. One of the CMs at Buzz told him, “May the Force be with you – the tri-force, that is.”)
We had pre-opening reservations at Be Our Guest, but so many other people had reservations too there really was no “empty street” shots possible.
And we were seriously hustling to get there because we over-slept. Thankfully the monorail was running (finally) so we ended up being ok on time. We had pre-ordered, but when we got to the kiosk to check it, Kevin’s meal was gone. I’d ordered him the Eggs Florentine, which they apparently don’t have anymore – instead they had Gaston’s Feast, which was actually a much better choice for him. So yay for that! We initially sat in the West Wing, but then Kevin decided he wanted to be in the ballroom, so we moved.
I had the Croque Madame which was ok/good. Chase had the open-faced Egg & Bacon Sandwich, which he also said was ok/good.
Both of ours were room-temp though, nearly cold, and would’ve been much better had then been warm. Kevin liked his though, and we all liked the pastries.
Then since the park hadn’t opened yet, we took some photos, and started the line for Merida. Then we rode the Peoplemover, did our FP for Buzz (I beat Kevin at Toy Story Midway Mania. He beat me at Buzz. Chase beat us both both times.), then Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, Little Mermaid, we met Ariel, we met Daisy, we met Minnie. Stopped at Gaston’s for a Lefou’s Brew:
Then we rode the train around, walked around and did our FP for Haunted Mansion, ate at Columbia Harbor House, and then did Peter Pan. Whew! We were trying to cram everything else before it got too hot!
We went and grabbed a FP for Pirates since we’d missed it the other night and had dole whips while waiting.
After Pirates, we headed back to the hotel for a nap. Kev wanted to wear his Jack Sparrow hat, so I added some eyeliner to make it look realistic. LOL
Oh and here he is with his new keyblade:
Anytime he took the Jack Sparrow hat off to cool down, with the eyeliner on it made him look like some weird 80s British glam rocker
We picked up a FP for Soarin, then headed into World Showcase, where I got a dole whip, the boys tried a couple of things at the UK booth, we watched the British Invasion band, walked around France, and then met Alice.
She asked Kevin if he was a pirate, he said “Arr.”
We checked in for our dinner at Rose and Crown, but thanks to the impending rainstorm their reservations all got shuffled back as they tried to decide whether or not they could use the patio. We ended up being about 30 mins past our time, so we were starving. Kev had Bangers and Mash, and Chase and I both had the pub burger which was super good. I took no photos because we wolfed it down so fast.
We had to speed walk back over to Soarin to ride it on our FP. We just managed to make it and got to enjoy Soarin over California one last time 🙂 When we came out, it had finally started raining, the park was closed, Illuminations canceled. Thankfully it wasn’t raining hard so no need to pull out the ponchos. We headed back to the hotel and packed up a bit.
Monday we were up super early to hit the road.
We took the majority of our stuff to the car in one trip, came back and double checked the room to make sure nothing had been forgotten (I always check the shower, the closet area, under the beds, and the drawers as we leave) and discovered Kevin had never gotten his dirty clothes out of the bottom drawer! We had nothing to put them in so had had to just carry them all to the car while I followed picking up the socks he was dropping.
The drive home was boring and uneventful. We did finally finish listening to Half Blood Prince — we’ve been working on that for like 2 years. Dropped Kev off around 7:30, stopped and got us dinner and finally sat down on our couch at 8:30.
Oh and all my videos were at the end of the gallery…. I discovered Boomerang over the weekend.
