christmas 2008!

Our first Christmas was really nice 🙂
I got a new laptop bag, a really nice top hat for my Zatanna costume (the one I had at dragoncon was a rental), a new external harddrive, lolcat magnets, the new dvd shelf we wanted, a wine cooler (LOL yeah we drink so much wine), lots of new clothes, etc. Also a freaking GIANT harry potter statue – I don’t know what I’m going to do with it.
I was off work today, yay, and I only have to work monday next week. I have a lot of cleaning to do and I want to work on some stuff.

In other news… we’re going to Orlando for Megacon at the end of February, I’m super excited! We’re taking Kevin and Chase’s brother – for Christmas we got Kevin a Luke ROTJ costume from one of the chinese costume sellers. I’m really pleased with how it turned out and he really, really liked it. I don’t know who’s more excited about the trip, him or me.

Not sure what we’re doing for New Year’s. We’ve got friends in town this next week so we’re all going to get together and exchange gifts and play games, I think sunday?

I can’t believe it’s been 2 years since Chase proposed… time sure does fly… well anyway I hope everyone has a happy new year 🙂

We didn’t put many ornaments on it, since the branches were so close, we just put our favourites up. It’s lasting a good long time, though. Indy is a little put out because the tree is where her chair usually sits LOL

What about Padme’s nightgowns, like these:

Those look flowy but also cool, since they are sleeveless.

I’ve got the steel blue nightgown about 80% done right now actually, one of these days I will finish it! LOL

    heres some thoughts…
    Padme’s corset gown
    One of Dawn’s costumes
Alice from Resident Evil ( the red dress)

or what about some anime costume?

    • kelldar

I am actually thinking about a Dawn costume for next year, maybe I can combine the two and do one of her “lighter” ones! thanks!

this site is fun to poke at for ideas of swishy dresses!

Also, you can always pull a random CLAMP chara? many have pretty floaty dresses and what not

    • kelldar

Yeah I need to dig through there and look!
A Clamp character might work! thanks!

Possibly Aeris, from FF7, or Rinoa from FF8? Or at least, their outfits seem comfortable enough to move around in. Actually, Rinoa’s would probably better than Aeris’ – Aeris has those metal arm band things.

    • kelldar

Those would be fun to dance in! Especially Rinoa! I’m just not all that up to making FF costumes anymore 🙂

Christine’s Hannibal costume from Phantom of the Opera. Akivasha’s red or white dresses from Kull the Conqueror. Kelly Hu’s gold bikini thing from Scorpion King. Elektra’s red tank top and swishy skirt from the Daredevil movie. Niobe’s purple dress from Rome.

Gee, my DVD shelf is just full of scantily clad but decent women…

    • kelldar

Wow, great suggestions!! LOL now I’ve got lots to choose from!

  • penwiper337

Jeannie’s evil sister from I Dream of Jeannie (’cause of the brown hair). Dahhhhhling.

    • kelldar

LOL I’ve actually thought about that before! Good suggestion!

  • annlarimer

Marvel Girl’s 70s mini-dress, with the skirt cut swishy like a skater’s skirt.

    • kelldar

      ooh, I like that idea!

    characters from books

you have done excellent costumery from film, television, and video games.

why not do something imaginative and interpret a famous character from a book?

you can make it work to your convention needs and requirements while still giving yourself someone cool and original that people might recognize.

I can think of more than a few, but I doubt you’d need any advice on the matter.

      Re: characters from books

I have; Lessa from Dragonriders of Pern, and Ozma from the Oz novels, Susan from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, and an original concept of an Arwen dress from LOTR. 🙂
The problem with them is, most people don’t recognize who you’re supposed to be – even if they do, unless you just really manage to find something amazing, you’re not going to get noticed much.
The only book costume I have planned in the future is Glinda from the Oz novels.

I myself was thinking of doing the Leia costume from where she awards Luke and han the metals. I have to agree with you that the salve Leia is SO overdone at Dragon.

I’m just not sure it would get recognized.
