So first off – I finished the dress and I’m much happier with it now.

I removed a ton of excess fabric around that front sleeve seam – both from the sleeve and the front panels. There’s still some gathering in the back, but I basically removed it all from the front. It doesn’t look so top heavy on me now. It’s now not as loose and flowy as I wanted, but it’s ok. It at least doesn’t look like a sack on me anymore.

The trade off for doing all this was that I had to make a new collar. Having to take the collar off this dress for (I think) the 3rd time, it was too damaged by this point and had holes all over the seam edge. (I did aim my scissors for the collar while unpicking instead of towards the dress – I’d rather holes in the collar that I can recut and replace than the dress portion.) I had JUST enough scraps left to cut the new collar, got it attached… and then realized that all my manipulation with the front of this dress had caused it to stretch. At least that’s my assumption, because once I had the new collar on, it was “slumping” right under the collar like it was suddenly longer than it was before. I took the collar off again, just in the front, and brought it down as much as I could to eat up some of that excess. It helped but it’s still a little slumpy.

Onto shoes… I have two options.

First is the boots, which I think is my fav option. I was telling Ash about our concept of our Luke and Leia bounds and she said it’s “Yeehaw Skywalkers” and I think the boots fit the idea of “Yeehaw Skywalkers” the best.

Then I have these sandals. Bought them last week. They are very ewoky. They are also very flat. I do like them, and since they are so small, I’m taking them with me and I’m just going to throw them in the bottom of our park bag in case I want to switch to them during the day. Since it’s gonna be hot.

But with that I’m considering this done. It’s finished. I’m not touching it anymore. I finally started packing yesterday, and this went into my suitcase first so it’s protected by everything else.

The problem with liking these boots best is that I also wanted to bring a different pair of knee high brown leather boots. So now I’ve got 2 pairs of boots plus my stacked tennis shoes I’m trying to squeeze in. Why can’t I just take one pair? Because I don’t like one of them with the dress (they are slightly too tall and I feel too chunky which throws off the look of the dress), but I don’t like the ones that go with the dress with jeans (I like the chunkier heel with the jeans). So there.

It sounds like we’re going to buy a new suitcase when we get to Anaheim because between me buying fabric, Chase going to the USC bookstore, and us going to disney… our suitcases are already busting at the seams going out that way, nevermind trying to come back.

Our neighbors’ cats have been hanging out on our porch a lot lately. They are so sweet.

I finished this Star Wars puzzle…. and I’m missing a piece!! (mad emoji)

Saturday we all had haircuts. Kevin got a baby mullet. Now he just needs Chase to clean up his beard.

Had lunch with Ash & Gabe and then went to a nearby antique mall that has a costume booth, and I’m pretty sure it’s the stock from when our local costume store went out of business a while back.

This looks SO much like the dress I wore in Camelot back in 1995 (that we rented from that costume shop).

Kevin found a mini me

Yesterday I cleaned the upstairs – Kevin’s room, work office/guest room, sewing room and bathroom – because I thought the bug guy was coming to spray today. Did all that for Chase to tell me it’s actually next week he’s coming. Oh well, at least it’s done for that now. Then I packed, and then we got ready for dinner and a show!

Went to Good Fortune for dinner

Then to Back to the Future at the Orpheum!

I entered the Lucky Seat drawing a while back, and Monday last week I got the email that we “won” – we could get $40 tickets for the Sunday show. Yay! We wanted to see this so much! We were on the side in the orchestra, but the view was great. Especially since it wasn’t sold out and that area wasn’t full – I didn’t have any heads in front of me. I did, however, have a kid sitting right next to me all through the first act that wouldn’t stop whispering to his parent. Parent shushed him a few times but it didn’t stop. The two seats on the other side of Chase were empty, so during intermission I just moved to his other side. But then the kid and his parents didn’t come back after intermission, so *shrug*

The downstairs area of the Orpheum feels very Tower of Terror-y liminal space-y when nobody else is down there.

My stage pic!

It was really cute and funny, I enjoyed it. The car effects were amazing! Really glad we got to see it.

Today I need to order more Padme fabric. I want to be able to start on the skirt embroidery when we get home…
