awake but at what cost

oof what a weekend.

So fun fact, when the previous owners of our house decided to put it on the market, they had the entire house repainted. Everything, (and unfortunately not well but that’s a story for another day) I wish they’d saved the money and built it into the sale as a bonus towards the new owners painting, but I get it, you want the house to look good during showings. But 4 years later we’re still slowly replacing all of these colours we don’t like.

Case in point – the pale green in our bedroom.

Don’t get me wrong, you guys know green is my favourite colour. But we’ve been wanting to repaint based on the ruggable we have at the foot of the bed since we got it in 2020. We bought a new mattress recently and it’ll be delivered in the next couple of weeks. We needed to clean out from under the bed and remove all breakables from the area so since we were doing that anyway, we thought now is the time to paint.

So we used Behr’s colour picker and picked out a blue and a grey from the rug and went Friday night and got paint.

Saturday morning we took everything apart:

And then got started.

We’re doing one wall of blue behind the bed and the light grey everywhere else. Funnily enough Saturday morning I realized – this is the same way we painted our bedroom at the old house, just slightly different tones of the same colours LOL

So this did not go smoothly.

First off, the paint sucked. It was thick and globby, did not go on evenly at all, and took 3 coats everywhere just for a solid finish.

We had planned for this to be just like, a day project, done by dinner right?

Nope we didn’t get done til 9. And at that point we were like… it doesn’t matter what it looks like we’re done.

We had to sleep in the guestroom that night because we were too tired to put the mattress back. Plus it smelled like paint in there.

Sunday we put everything back together.

Well, as much as we’re putting it back together before the mattress arrives.

I’m really happy with the blue colour but not so much with the light grey. Against our almond baseboards and door it looks baby blue bleh. But it’s better than the green and eventually we’ll be replacing all the almond stuff. Just dunno when that will be.

(Why not do the whole room blue? Because we both like a light and airy feel to the bedroom but we still like colour so this is a nice meet-in-the-middle. And we really liked the same set-up at our old house in our old bedroom)

So after we finished putting things back together Sunday morning I went out and sat up the halloween decorations outside before I ran out of steam.

Chase had the lawn aerated and seeded last week so we can’t put anything on the grass (mad face), so the tombstones are all up in the flower areas and the new doombuggy is in the monkey grass. Not the best set up but all we can do. I put some new purple lights up on the porch – can’t really see them here, need to take another pic at night.

Still not done yet though, because my new shelf I bought last week arrived early so Chase and I got it assembled.

Moving all my craft supplies to this — it’s going in my work office/the guest room. I want to reclaim the drawers in my blue chest in the sewing room for sewing supplies.

I’ve been trying to move away from the college dorm cubbies/fabric storage cubes. This one does have fabric drawers but it looks nicer than a cubby. I’m going to put some shelf protector/contact paper in each drawer to protect them from any craft mess/paint/etc.

And after all that? I was officially DONE. I was sore from painting the day before, like my neck and shoulders, my thighs, my calves, everythin was screaming. And exhausted. So I ended up getting NO SEWING done this weekend whatsoever.

But I did get some stuff done last week.

I finally cut the chiffon!! 4 panels – 2 front, 2 back. Here it is all just sloppily pinned on so I could see how it was going to look.

And with the waist piece:

I did also get the silk layer for the waist piece cut and assembled but won’t get it sewn onto the base until I get the chiffon for that cut, too.

So next is gathering these pieces at the top and getting them sewn together.

I did get my ribbon for the trim/belt in the mail this weekend but don’t have a pic atm.

I’m still not really in the mood for sewing, but I’m trying to make myself do a little every night. Generally if I make myself go just do one thing it’s a decent step forward. And since I still don’t have this costume’s construction fully fleshed out in my head anyway, taking it one small step it at a time works best.

Anyway my Marriott deposit came out. Whoo hoo. Now I can start planning next year’s projects. I have a rough idea. But I’ll talk more about that later.
