We had to buy a new printer. Ours kicked the bucket. Boo! I’ve got a ton of stuff to print for VisionCon so we ordered a new one and it should arrive tomorrow. Yay.
I got two nice 8×10 display portfolios for Christmas that I’m going to print off a lot of my costume photos to display on my table at VisionCon. I thought it would be a nice way to show off some of my costumes without actually having them there. I’m also going to take my dressform to set up to show a couple, also.
I’ve been thinking about what costumes to take… and some of it depends on what I wear at MidSouthCon. I may wear Tightrope Walker at MidSouthCon and if I do, I won’t take her to VisionCon… or I might wear Dolores to MidSouthCon and if I do I’ll take her to both because she’s new. I dunno.
Anyway here’s what I’m thinking of taking at the moment – some of this is for me to wear, some for the dressform:
Tightrope Walker
Edith (maybe, I have to do totally different makeup for Edith so it’s hard to switch in and out of her)
Donna Unicorn & the Wasp
Pink Georgian (if I can at least finish getting the shoulders taken up/sleeves sewn back in. I’m not going to worry with the bustle right now.)
Captain Marvel
Comic Book Leia (I’ve also been trying to figure out a way to wear this at Celebration along with Bespin but since we’re only there one day and not staying near the con center I don’t see how it’s possible. Doesn’t mean my brain isn’t trying, though.)
Dolores
Anne Boleyn (the white one)
Megara
Romana I
Belle Ballgown #2
Donna (regular Donna, why not)
Marie Antoinette
Peggy Carter
Arwen Blood Red
And maybe a couple of accessories and props to lay out on my table.
Anyway this wasn’t supposed to be a post about VisionCon but it turned into one. Oops.
I got my Dolores wig!
I was only going to put a smiley face over my no-makeup-just-came-home-from-work face but then I started drawing on it and it cracked me up.
I need to darken the roots but otherwise I think the colour and length are perfect. This weekend I’m going to do that, and also get it up on a wighead to style into place and curl the ends a little more, and add the little curls by the face. I also need to cut the side-combs out – they are positioned too low and are currently trying to grab onto my ears instead of my hair.
But overall I’m super happy with it considering how cheap it was.
My Dolores trim:
Here’s the four layers of trim on the neckline. The velvet trim I dyed (machine sewn on at the top), the lace (will be hand-sewn), and the two alternating rick-racks (also hand-sewn). With Bespin I just haven’t had the time to dig into MORE hand-sewing so it’s on the docket for this weekend (along with the belt).
Speaking of Bespin… I’ve been working like crazy on it all week trying to make it for lost time after last week’s disaster. I finally feel like I’ve fallen into a rhythm and I’m getting the hang of it. But everytime I try to take a photo of it, it doesn’t look like ANYTHING so I don’t post it.
Here it is on the floor of my office at work. I’ve been bringing it in with me everyday and working on it over my lunch hour – I eat my lunch while still working, then clock out and have a solid hour to embroider. It’s actually pretty nice and the light in my office is great for doing this (I normally keep the light in my office OFF because it’s too bright. So when anybody walks by and sees my light on — they know I’m on lunch and I’m sewing, LOL)
I traced the two side panels in yellow. Those two panels were my tester panels – the yellow is easier to see so as I’m getting used to do the shapes and working through how to stitch each element, I do it on the side panels first. The grey ones – the front two and center back – are my “hero” panels. Its harder to see my lines but looks better at the end. I’m wishing I hadn’t done the yellow at all now, but at this point I have to live with it.
Yesterday’s haul:
I got this much done yesterday. The front two bottom flowers partially done. Instead of doing one whole vertical piece at a time, I’m hopping around and doing the same element on each panel – in this case I’m focusing on the bottom two flowers of each panel. Middle right is about 90& done, front right you see above, center back just has the center rings done. Nothing yet on the left side.
I’m feeling pretty good about how it’s looking at this point. I’m just not sure how I’m feeling about it, time-wise. I had a dream the other night that we were at Disney 3 days before Celebration and my embroidery was in the state it was NOW and I was going to try and finish it the hotel room LMAO But I realized there was no way it was going to get finished and I was crying and calling my mom asking her to go to my house and get my regular Leia costume and fedex down to me so I’d have something to wear. So sad.
Anyway like I said way back in the VisionCon segment above my brain has been trying to figure how to wear 2 costumes at Celebration. I’d really love to somehow get up there on Friday for the RL photo, but considering we’re paying for Disney tickets that day I’m not going to take 3-4 hours out of the day to get into costume, drive to the con center, pay to park, be in a group photo for about an hour, then come back, change… I know logically it would just be a giant rigmarole and not really worth it. I’m starting to wish we’d bought tickets for Friday instead of Saturday. If they’d let us switch, I’d honestly think about it, but then I’d miss the Leia shoot on Saturday… which I’m not really a part of, it’s the Slave Leia shoot and I just wanted to go by and say hello to folks, because obviously I’m not taking slave Leia. that’s so not happening ever again LOL
