I’ve had a cold since I got back from Disney, and on top of that had a migraine come on Saturday… ugh! Despite that I actually got some sewing done over the weekend!
Saturday I got over to Joann’s, hoping to find fabric for the bodice of my Dragon Con costume, and failing that, I figured I’d get the white satin I needed for the skirt. Well I ended up getting both, and thanks to coupons came in right at $50. Yay.
I’m using Simplicity 1728 for the bodice and skirt basis. The bodice has the shape I wanted with the just-off-the-shoulder straps, and the skirt is close enough so I might as well use it while I have it out.
So Saturday afternoon I got the interior pieces cut and put together — I had some leftover black taffeta I’m using as the lining (btw, I have no idea what this is leftover from. I can’t figure out what I used this on?? weird.), interfacing, and some leftover Disney Princess cotton:
Got the boning cut and in, and then Sunday I got the outer shell of my velveteen cut, sewn together, pressed, and got the lining piece sewn in:
It’s pulling a lot very weirdly at the hips and at the sleeve opening, but I’m guessing that’s because it’s not pinned completely onto the dressform and because the shoulder straps can’t sit correctly on the form (also the shoulder straps are just pinned together here, not sewn yet). I didn’t notice it doing that when I tried it on. But, I’m going with it whatever at this point because I’m barreling through this project as fast as I possibly can. I want to have it DONE by the end of July so I can go back to our Rapunzel’s Parents costume for October — I’ll only have 2 weeks of September to work on them!
