Past couple of days I’ve struggled with finding the energy to sew in general, plus just being a little stymied by not knowing where to go first on this costume. I haven’t been able to really wrap my head around, nor I have I felt like trying.
But I finally got a plan of attack in place and decided I really needed to focus on the yoke base/sleeves first, and that helped. Last night I finally got one of the sleeve pieces put together and it actually looks pretty decent, so I’m feeling better about things:
I kinda messed up the upper sleeve/sleeve puff at first, and had to go back and revisit it, and it actually ended up being a little too big — but I discovered if I tacked the bottom edge up a bit it helped with that (haven’t done that yet in these photos). The lower sleeve is waaaaay long because I’m wearing it scrunched up on my arm… it looks better on a human, haha.
The sleeve pieces are just pinned together at this point, I wanted to open up the armhole to be a bit bigger (I have some room to adjust) so it’d be more comfortable. It’s not bad having it on for a few seconds trying it on, but I know after a few hours it would get irritating at the size it’s at now.
The sucky thing is I only made one of everything. Well, I’ve got my fabric cut for the other side, but I only sewed/adjusted everything on this one. Now I have to do the second one, uuuuuuugh.
Oh! And I discovered that steaming this fabric and scrunching helps give it a texture closer to what I was after originally. Yay! That’s easy enough to do.
So tonight… sleeve #2. This weekend I’m going to focus on the neckline pleating again, probably start over….
