I finallllly got working on my Disgust costume again over the weekend. Well I worked on a little bit last week too, but that was mostly just finishing up the top, so it wasn’t really worth posting about.
I started working on the dress designs:
I ran to Michael’s saturday morning and grabbed some embroidery floss since as it turns out, I didn’t have much in my stash that would work. I didn’t actually start doing anything with it until yesterday afternoon, though, because I decided to just lay on the couch most of Saturday. Above is my first test “splotch,” pinned onto the back of the skirt.
And sewn in place:
Now two splotches:

And yesterday’s work hanging on the dressform:
(Ignore the wrinkles, didn’t iron the whole thing)
So I’m ok with it. It’s not as clean an application as I would’ve liked, but it’ll do. I think it’s neat and much less risky than painting it…. and cheaper than buying printed from spoonflower.
I’m also thinking I may have to make a petticoat (ugh). If my fabric were a little heavier it might stick out enough to not need it, but alas.
Saturday night we went to see Beauty & the Beast Jr and I got to see my costumes in action! So exciting! We didn’t sit all that close so all of my photos are zoomed in iphone pics, but better than nothing (I blurred their faces for privacy, which may have been pointless – my iphone pics were pretty blurry anyway!)
I was really happy with how great the blue dress looked and moved. I wish I’d shortened the apron a little bit, oh well!
The ballgown:
I think the bodice could have been shortened a hair but that’s just a nitpick… it moved and looked great onstage.
Anyway = they did a really great job, we really enjoyed the show!
Oh and lastly – Ash got me this awesome Disney World transportation poster for Christmas and it just arrived! I can’t wait to frame this and put it up in the Disney hallway!
Although I’m rethinking hallway… maybe living room…
