I did a bit of sewing on Queen Aelsa Saturday night.
After cutting the bodice sections of white stretch knit, I realized the colours were going to look too different once I had the chiffon overlay on. So I managed to scrounge enough of the silver velvet to cut most of the bodice pieces out of it – couldn’t manage the back section, but that will be hidden by hair.
I got the base dress nearly put together, except for that back section, and my chiffon overlay cut out.
I need to press that waist-line seam so it’s hopefully not too visible once I have the chiffon in place.
I don’t know WHAT the deal is, but I can’t find enough of any one fabric I need for this project. They didn’t have enough of the white knit OR the silver velvet I wanted for the base dress, which is why I was mixing them originally. The white chiffon has been the biggest issue – The biggest amount I managed to scrape up was 4 yards at the Joann’s in Jackson, and I was able to get most of the dress out of that, but I still need more for the sleeves and skirt insets. Our Joann’s had NONE. Hancock’s – NONE. Went to the other Hancock’s yesterday and finally managed another 2 yards, which I suppose will be the sleeves.
I just hate buying something that basic online.
Anyway, depending on how much this dress wants to droop once I have the whole base thing together, I may go back and line the bodice section in cotton just to keep it from stretching out too much.
I also grabbed some random patterns because they were on sale.
The Snow White and the Huntsmen pattern, some cute steampunk jackets, two Game of Thrones-esque (with a Tauriel thrown in for good measure), and a lolita-ish pattern. I actually grabbed that last one by mistake when looking for the steampunk jackets, but I thought, eh, it’s cute let’s take it too.
I picked up a couple of new ones at Joann last week too but I can’t remember what they were, haha.
