I was hoping to get a lot of sewing done this past weekend but hardly did anything. I couldn’t wrap my head around where I’d left off on Johanna. I cut out the gores for the skirt and that’s about it.
So I’m hoping to jump back in this weekend. I’d like to get the main bulk of the main dress done, and start drafting the chiffon parts. I really need to figure out where I am on chiffon, and how much more I need.
Also have some cute fabric I want to make an apron with, and I’m expecting both Elsa and some other fabric today, so plenty to do.
Everytime I hear music from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” I’m reminded of a costume I started but never made. It actually doesn’t have anything to do with Pink Floyd, really – I’ll have to start at the beginning to explain it.
Back in college I was taking a class on Goethe’s Faust at the same time I was taking my intro to fabrics. The semester before I’d taken another class – I don’t remember the name, but a big part of the class was studying The Wall, and it played into my final paper for that class. So all three of those things clashed at once for me, ending with my final project for the Faust class and one of my projects for the fabrics class bringing all 3 things into play — I designed 3 costumes for a stage version of Faust, which was to be a rock opera using the “The Wall.” (oh the ideas you get in college) I actually chickened out on turning in the concepts in my Faust class and did a random art piece last minute and turned that in instead, but I did half of the Margaret/Gretchen costume I designed for the fabrics class.
Later that year I thought about making the Mephistopheles costume for myself for Halloween – I bought all the fabric and sat on it, until a week before Halloween and I hadn’t even started on it, and ended up making a quick version of Ceremonial Leia instead.
I still have most of the black suede I bought for the jacket, and the boots and the skeleton of the hat. I’ve used up some of the other fabric I bought but still have some of it. I still play around with the idea of finishing it everytime I hear a song from The Wall…. which is pretty often because it’s in rotation on my ipod a lot. Maybe one of these days I’ll do it.
