Things have been busy.
My great-great aunt Louise died earlier this week. She was 95. Her husband, my great-great uncle died in 1964 so I never knew him.
The graveside service was interesting. It was pouring rain and we were huddled under a leaking tent, but the minister who spoke was straight out of a movie, an old-fashioned country minister, with a great voice and calling us “ya’ll.”
So I have a handful of random stuff to post today.
First, here’s how my arm looked as of yesterday, the spot the nurse blew my vein.
The funny thing was that I ran to my parent’s house yesterday afternoon and was petting my cat Calvin. He’s not exactly a loving cat, he’s more like a grumpy old man… and I can’t even remember him ever licking me before. Well he turned around and licked my arm right there where I was all black and blue. I laughed and and moved away because, well, you know it feels weird to be licked by a cat! I started petting him again and he turned right around and started licking right there again. It was like he knew, sweet little grumpy old man cat LOL
Next, when I brought stuff over from my parent’s last week, mom sent my two old jewelry boxes back with me. They’re both things I’ve been handed down – one is a smaller red Japanese-style jewelry box, probably 40s or 50s if I were to guess. The other is a taller thing more like a mini-cabinet. Well I’ve kept random crap in them since I was probably 10 or so – I cleaned them both out last night, threw away the trash (I went through a phase where I liked to keep the fake plastic credit cards companies would send. There were a bunch in there.) Got rid of some old plastic jewelry… pulled out some old anime collectibles I’m hoping to sell (Trigun Wolfwood sunglasses, Gunsmith cats watch, etc.) stuff like that. I put all of my real jewelry which has just been lying around the bathroom in them, and got it all organized.
Anyway I said all that to say – in the smaller red Japanese one, I found an old photo. It had “June 4, 1922” written on the front, and on the back had two names. I recognized the last name of one of them as a name on my dad’s side, but wasn’t sure who it was exactly. So I called dad and asked – he said it was my Aunt B! Had no idea. But this photo is beautiful, it’s kinda worn but I’d love to get a little frame for it. After I scanned it in I noticed the detail on the dresses, and the hats (sitting next to them)! So pretty.
I found one pic of us from Star Wars in Concert:
Some friends of my mom was there – I saw them along the edges of the crowd around us and called their daughter up. I gave her one of my trading cards (yes I actually remembered to take them!) and mom said she hasn’t put it down since, took it to school with her and everything. LOL! too cute.
and today’s princess is Padme…
