Well, I didn’t REALLY go as Britan (from my comic SunDowner, for you who don’t know). Here’s what happened. I had decided to go as Tifa (from FF7), since I had the shoes (lol). Well, I put it off, and finally, like a 4 days before Halloween, I dragged Ashley to the mall to try and find some kind of shorts and top to finish this stupid costume (I know Tifa wears a skirt, but there was no way I was gonna do that). We looked all over that stupid mall, but NO one had dark brown shorts. It’s like the world suddenly decided, “no more dark brown shorts.” So I gave up. “Heck with it,” said I.
So I decided to go as a space pirate (kinda StarWarsy). At the time there was a story forming in my head which would eventually become SunDowner. I had vaguely designed the characters, so I made a makeshift costume, and the character it was based on went on to become Britan.
I ran around trying to find more specific costume pieces but eventually gave up and used stuff mostly out of my closet. The shoes I used were my big boots. I wear the boots all the time (under jeans, of course). Britan ended up NOT wearing these boots, though Yfandes and Piper both wear boots JUST like them.
The pants were a pair of loose, track-like polyester black pants with a rainbow stripe down the side. I tucked them into the knee-high combat boots… and there we go, already looking… uhm…. well, dumb.
I had this ancient shirt that my dad used to wear in like the 80s. It was white and had this huge collar. It did this weird thing with the zipper. I can’t explain it, but it IS actually THE shirt Britan wears in her issue 1 design. Only the sleeves were different. I threw an old black vest on over that, put my hair in a half ponytail, grabbed my Star Wars blaster water gun, and I was set.
So ok, nobody knew what I was. I ended up throwing the gun in my trick-or-treat bag ten minutes after we started out, and I think at some point I lost the vest, too.
I’m kinda glad there’s no pictures from this one…
EDIT: Oh but wait there is! I put it back on in 2001 to take photos for posterity!
